When I went to test drive the FL2 I eventually bought - it said range 0 miles - and salesman didn't drive to the nearest garage !!!!

It was in 'limp home mode' - I didn't know what it was - and it gave me a first driving impression of an under powered vehicle. Couldn't get above 30mph.

It almost cost him the sale - so glad I bought it Thumbs Up 2002 Honda VFR800

started with 14 miles when coming back from my old dealer, no sooner had i drove on to the duel carridgeway, past the petrol station next door it plummeted down to zero

had no choice but to drive about the last 5 miles with it on 0 range, not the best of feelings, but that was back in the days when fuel was cheaper Laughing Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Went out without money once and ended up out of town and struggling to find a petrol station.

Drove 12 miles on zero range at about 20 mph to conserve fuel then bought one pound 10p's worth of fuel at the first station I came across with the smash I found in the car glove box.

The woman laughed when I went to pay so I told her I had no money.

She ran out of the station as I was about to leave and said "You have an honest face just fill up and you can come back and pay me later"

Just shows you eh Twisted Evil

That was just before squeezing in 71 litres into the 68 litre tank so I'm guessing it was fairly empty!!!

That's not planning, it's belt and braces playing safe because you haven't planned. Planning is ensuring that you have access to fuel at the right price when you need it. Wink

About a year ago, I had an hour journey on the motorway to go home. Before departing I had 1/4 tank, range was showing enough miles to get home. Dont know what happened, lead foot or something but it guzzled the 1/4 up not far from home, it was late at night, tried 3 of these so called 24hour stations and all were closed Twisted Evil so i had no choice but limp home. Only just made it.

It's when the needle dips below the empty mark is when the fun starts, just how far can you go.

My most interesting experience was many years ago when I drove a luton van from the North East down to Kent and back again.

On the way back up the A1 the needle was nearing 0 on the fuel guage.

I had just passed a petrol services but didn't stop - next sign said "too far" to the next services! Big Cry

So took the next exit I could and drove past a petrol station as there was no way to cross the central reservation. had to drive up a long road to a roundabout.

On the way way back down to the station the engine stopped. Luckily I was going down hill and rolled into the petrol station and stopped at the pump. Whistle

Would never let it happen again - or carry an extra pair of trousers Confused 2002 Honda VFR800

Ah, you see, lack of planning. Never let the needle fall below half before filling up - Simples! Besides which SWMBO would be on my case big time. It's got to the degree where the 7 year old checks the fuel when she gets in the car and asks me if I have any intention of getting diesel today even when it's 3/4 full. Oh how they mimic Mum.

Then it gives your sphincter a rest.

Although I did say it was many years ago.....

Generally I refill when it drops between 1/4 and 1/2 dependent upon where i'm planning on going and how many pennies are in my pocket Smile

Must admit I had to steady myself when I filled the FL2 tank the first time - £86

Found that if I only have to fill the top half it doesn't feel tooooooooo bad - lets hope the government are nice to use in the budget (bet they won't be!) 2002 Honda VFR800

My Leon's on 0 at the moment Embarassed

I once went to collect a motorbike with the FL to Sunderland from Wakefield, set off with just over a quarter of a tank, and it barely used any on the way up!

So, set off back, bout half 10 at night and funnily enough all the petrol stations were shut (and because I'm a Yorkshire lad I refuse to fill up at service prices unless it's beyond desperate!)

Just got back to Wakefield, and whilst at some traffic lights in the centre, almost midnight, the range dipped to 0...with chavs and revellers all over getting all excited about a bike on a trailer!! Luckily I made it to an open filling station!

I've run out a few times on the bike before, my old man once towed me 12 miles to a filling station with me holding onto his pillion bar whilst on my bike...my left arm was huge when we got there! Mine: 2012 Golf GTI Edition 35
