Freelander 2 key fob does not work to unlock the car

I was away for 4 weeks. On my return I find that both key fobs for my freelander 2 absolutely do nothing to unlock the car. No response at all. Is it the battery in the key fob that is the problem? How do I resolve the situation?

The fob charges as it is docked. You can pop the key out of the fob by pressing in the lugs at the end of the fob. You can then remove a portion of your door handle cover to reveal a key hole to open the door. Then just place the fob in the ignition and go for a drive.

Hope that helps,

See HERE. One word of warning, when I first had to use the key to open the doors it required a considerable amount of force (clockwise direction) on the key to open the door. Once opened and the key docked everything was back to normal.

Good luck Thumbs Up

Thanks Wing and others. That was something I didn't know before. Good to be forewarned.

And be careful how you extract the key. The catch on one of mine was broken by the previous owner, with the result that the fob fell off the ring and I nearly lost it. I now have the two parts (fob and key) taped together.

Anyone experianced problems with the removable door handle cover falling off?

Since I bought my Freelander 2 last year the cover was loose but now falls off after about 500 yards.

Thought about putting it on with glue or 3M tape but if the fob ever dies I might be in trouble trying to remove it.

No, tend to think some small bit of plastic is broken. Why not cut some black insulating tape and carefully hold it in place with that?

KEY FOBS continually fails to unlock after prolonged period.

Hi

As a new member I came to the site looking for answers to WHY my key fobs (both) fail to unlock the doors after long periods (probably 3+ weeks).

I have had the car for 2 years and each time I go away for long periods the doors will not unlock with the key fob but is reset after "emergency" opening and all is okay again.

There is nothing wrong with car battery or for that matter the fob batteries!

I would be interested to know if this is a common problem with the F2?

I can see there are others out there with similar problems but would like to quantify it to see if there are just a few or whether it is a general fault.

Also has others left their F2 for prolonged periods over 2 weeks and all has been okay as would be good to establish the "period" when it still works. Thumbs Up

The car goes into hibernation after about 4 weeks to protect the battery, it's quite normal happened to me a couple of years ago and others on here have had the same issue, nothing to worry about better than a flat battery.

Another one-post-not-going-to-introduce-myself-help-me-out wonder!

I wish these people would have the common courtesy to post for a second time and either report back to let others know how they got on or thank those that offer advice. Shouldn't be allowed to ask for help on a first post - I think I'll make a point of ignoring cries for help on a first post in future unless they at least introduce themselves or say Hello. Yes, but Steve has contributed to this forum since January, with helpful posts. A bit different to just posting once and never replying.

I understand your point though Nick. Thumbs Up

the guy posted at 3:41 and then the reply like that 30 minutes later, its uncalled for

How much some goes on to contribute has nothing to do with it, end of the day, its a knowledgeable owners forums, we are there to help, whether they have 1 post or 15000 post

We would like them all to stick around and join in, but in reality people turn to the internet and look for help and then go on their merry way Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis
