I don't think many of use will wear out our tyres on the steel spare so maybe some were supplied with a full size tyre and some not!

The can of jallop is ok providing the tyre is in a fit state to take it, I can imagine many a Land Rover owner being stuck on the side of the road waiting for someone to bring a proper wheel to get them mobile again, I only hope the folk that thought of this crazy idea keeps getting punctures themselves when the family is in the car and its minus 10 outside and the jallop has frozen up and the tyre is in bits!! I was only wrong once and thats when I thought I was but wasnt. 2010 Freelander 2 XS Stornaway Grey 2010 Aston DBS Morning Frost 2010 Bentley Continental Brooklands Green |

Mines a 225/65 17 steel too (with a Hankook tyre). Tyre goop is ok for emergencies, but often stops the tyre being repaired afterwards and can throw the balancing off due to some goop settling in a blob. This then means buying a new tyre at £150ish for Wranglers.

My 07 model had a 235/65/17 Goodyear Wrangler on a metal wheel while the main wheels were 235/65/17 Continentals on alloys.

But it is not really a space saver, the overall circumferance is the same be it a 17" or a 19" so we are only talking tyre width and only in some cases. As said before its penny pinching. p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior |

My 07 GS had 235/65/17 Goodyear Wranglers on all 4 road wheels and it's steel spare. Steel spare swapped for matching alloy. |

Models up to 2010 had steel spare with 225/65x17 tyre, one width narrower than road wheels. Many have fitted an original tyre to steel spare when replacing tyres, picking the best old one.

No spare wheel = more mpg & less emissions. Not much, sure, but you can bet for the EU tests the car was 'standard' ie no spare wheel. Trevor

Reminds me of when all commercials including small vans had to be weighed and were taxed accordingly.

I've got a full size 18" alloy spare and a tin of liquid rubber. Would I use the liquid, no, never, but the inflator is handy to lilo inflations. |
