Hey everyone. Back again, with another new noise. Happy days!

The noise is like a tic tic tic noise. Sounds like when you free-wheel a bicycle. It is coming from the cente of the car. Under the central console/ handbrake area.

Increases in frequency with road speed, not engine speed. Clutch in or out, still makes the noise.

Just had new rear discs pads and shoes fitted at dealer in case that makes any difference, but I doubt it.

Anyone have any ideas? If I phone LR assist, would they come out to check this? Or are they only for when you break down and can't move?

Thanks for any help. Car has been great since got brakes done. I'm gutted. Loved LR's for years. Finally get one and I've had all these wee things. Also, light arounf#d the cigar lighter is intermittent

it sound like you have a nail screw in a tyre, just a thought i had one years ago drove me nuts as evry time i stopped i could never find it as it could been on the road untill i found a car park and slowly checked every tyre (must have looked daft) but found a wacking great screw complete with washer stuck in the tyre

Cheers andw. That's what I thought at first. I checked the rear tyres quickly when I got in, but could see nothing. I'm going to jack it up and check all 4 tyres tomorrow. Hopefully that's all it is - don't like the tyres that came with it anyway.
It's just weird how it seems to come from the middle of the car, under the hand brake console.

Fingers crossed it's the tyres!

Could be one of the light alloy sheilds that cover the driveshaft between the gearbox and the haldex. I had one bend slightly and it drove me mad until I was able to get under the car to find it and bend it back. It didn't rub all the time, and the frequency changed with road speed.

obviously a stone or a nail in a tyre is the simple and normally most likely solution.

but the fact that you just had new discs etc fitted may be related to this ?

does moving the handbrake up slightly just to tension the cable make any difference ?

does pressing the footbrake slightly make any difference ?

and is the noise still there when reversing ?

Just had all 4 wheels off. some small stones in the tread. Reomoved them all and it is still making the noise.

The noise is still there with the handbrake and brakes slightly pressed. Not noticed it while reversing. Don't tend to hear it until driving at about 15mph.

Didn't really check the driveshaft shields - i'll do that when I get a free minute

Think I'll phone LR and see what they say

id go for the shields before ringing and see if you have one slightly bent by the way have you been throught any deep water latley as the force of the water splash can put the shields out off shape good luck

Only a long shot, but are you using original wheel bolts
I got mine swapped once on an earlier car and the longer ones in the wrong position made a similar noise to you describe. 2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.

Dealers said that it could be the shields. When I got it back after about 45mins, they said they "adjusted the hand brake"

Noise gone now, so whatever they did, it seemed to work

As I am a bit 'mut n jeff' I might have all your noises and more but would not know it, car keeps going tho!  Upgraded to an ex demo, 7 mth old, Rimini Red/Ebony Napoli Auto HSE on 28th Jan 2011, added roof rails, mudflaps and side strips.
Gone - A great 57 Plate, Auto SE, Bought Feb 2009, Roof Rails and Mudflaps added on purchase. Blue colour, anything but drug dealer black.....

Don't sound like a diesel at all, just a silky smooth petrol.
No wind noise, must be the top notch door and window seals.
No tyre noise, excellent sound proofing and road surfaces.
What 'boings' and 'dings', I get no warnings.
Screeching wipers, never heard of it, they last forever.


As time goes on I swear the car gets quieter, only a Land Rover can do that.
Just wish the bloody horn worked.
