Is yours a newish electronic charger? If so beg borrow or steal an old type charger to kick your battery back to life. electronic chargers have big problems with totally flat batteries. or try putting a load across terminals while you switch the charger on At work

i have read if a leisure battery is fully discharged it is near impossible to get a charge back into it

I have a Ring Smart Charger 16 was about £80 (I paid £18 as i can get Ring things at cost Very Happy )

It has a reconditioner side that should do it, but 28hours later it said it was Censored ed Exclamation

Just got a quote for a new battery £70, Shocked apparently its the cost of lead thats gone up (it cost me £49 3 years ago)

If its not Censored petrol, its Censored TAX and if its not TAX its Censored LEAD Mad Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Anybody got an old style battery charger?

Censored battery dead again Evil or Very Mad

I charged it in December as it had been stood still since October and the freezing cold weather

went back on Sunday and the battery still operated the vans lights etc, but thought i would bring it home for a charge

Ring Smart Charger 16, says 0 volts, so had it charging all day yesterday and checked it this morning, still 0 volts Confused put it on the reconditioning charge cycle, but i'm guessing it FUBAR

spoke to were i got it from and they said they will try give it a charge, but also said they only offer a 12month warranty on them, others i have seen offer 24 of 48month warranty

If it is knackered i'll need another, whats a good place to buy, need higher amp due to motor mover etc Question Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Fleabay have some good one in yellow and some in red and a 3 year warranty. Bit pricey, but you get what you pay for.

that looks to be a car battery

Might have a run out to my local caravan dealers on the M62 and see what they offer, i defiantly not buying a battery with 1 year warranty again,

Catterick Caravans offer a big orange battery for £71+ and they have 2 year warranty, same battery as i had from new without problems until the wife left the fridge on and ran it completely flat and wouldn't recharge Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

NPinks,

Try www.elecsolbatteries.com as advertised in The Caravan Club magazine which come with a 5 year guarantee and using a modern electronic charger can be left connected to the mains 24/365

If mains not available for trickle charging try www.that-leisure-company.co.uk who also advertise in the Caravan Club mag for advice and supply. They are based near you in Leeds.

As CG said, put a load across the battery to help kickstart it. Try a sidelamp bulb of a few amps, it will do no harm leaving it on for a while.

when you say a side lamp bulb, do you mean putting this on the battery whilst charging, or just before? as just before removing it i tested the caravan lights and they worked ok, for got to look at the volt meter though, thought the week before it was about 12.3v from memory

McP might have to take you up on the old style charger, though i will have to be sooner than later as the caravan is getting serviced 7th March, and i presume he'll need a battery in to check the caravan, i suppose he could say wether is Censored or not though Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

You can put a small load across the battery with the charging leads before you switch on and leave it there for a while, this will help kickstart the charger into thinking it has a load present.

When a battery is flat its internal resistance is high and this is what stops many chargers from starting (it can't detect the battery), by adding a low resistance load it can help boot it.
