Puncture Repairs

Had a puncture today, nothing startling there, took the wheel off and went to to Quick Fit. Pleasent enough, but the bill was 21 quid. Shocked

9.50 for the repair
4 valve
6 balance
1.50 Nitrogen Inflation, whatever that it.

Stupidly I took a tenner with me and ended up paying Switch. Shows you how long it is since I was a puncture repaired.

Sorry to say this mate but you have been ripped off big style. I had a puncture repaired about 2 months ago and payed £10 all in. Quick fit are some of the biggist rob dogs on the high street IMO.

about a tenner and my local tyre guy repairs my punctures outside my house, obviously more if its not a simple mend, and I do give him a fair amount of work on tractor tyres so 'private' work is at a good rate At work

Oh dear, maybe I should have phoned round getting estimates before getting a puncture repair! Bit extreme. I thourght they'd be much of a muchness. That will teach me. I did think a tenner, but 21 quid! They did take a 'gauge' to it to see if it would repair. I don't know what that involved. To my mind, the screw that I'd picked up was in the centre part of the tread, so wheres the problem? Luckily I have a full size spare.

The only up side was it was on my way. Hadn't been to QF for years, looks like I wont be visiting there again.

Pinkey, you gloating? If I was near Leeds, you could have told them the repair was yours and I'd have gotten it for nothing.

Are you guys serious?!? Arguing about 10 or 20£........ Embarassed
It's madness to charge anything below 20£ for a job no matter what it is. Where I work the minimum job will always be charged with one hour.
A puncture repair here will run you about 35£. FL2, TD4 HSE

I am obliged to use Kwik Fit as my current car is leased, punctures have been done FOC, I guess they know they get the business. However, on four occasions they have damaged the alloys when changing tyres, on one occasion they didn't tighten the wheel bolts although the receipt gave the name of the fitter and the name of the supervisor who checked them!!

As for Nitrogen filling Rolling with laughter Air is roughly 80% nitrogen already.

I will be glad when I get my Freely and can salute them as I drive past and find a more qualified outfit

The filling of nitrogen for car tyres reduces corrosion because nitrogen is completely dry and because it has bigger molecules it will not leak so easily and for the ordinary guy with the ordinary car its a load of bull.

but ideal for aeroplanes Thumbs Up

Agree, aero tyres I believe are purged though, to rid the air already in there, car tyres are simply inflated to pressure, the air already in there is not purged and replaced.

If you say NO, do they use a different airline, nah, it's the same one Whistle

By the way, how's the SD4, can't wait for mine, then Lancashire will have one too Laughing

I recentlly had nitrogen in all my tyres (cost about 3.99), and all the air was removed first, it was actually quite a long job. They fit the machine to all the tyres at the same time and inflate and deflate until all the air is out and then fill with the nitrogen. Should mean that the tyres will not lose any pressure for quite some months.....and if they do, I just pop back for a re-fill. By the way....It was NOT kwikfit.

You live and learn.

SWMBO drove the big car the other day, and swears the dash display read 'suspension fault' so she drove on it a mile home bouncing about all over the place. so guess what, it was another puncture and it went from a repairable puncture to you need a new 200 squid tyre.

When I moaned about being shafted with the bill that was really hers and it would have been repairable if she had only stopped to check, I told to get over it! Different if it had been her motor.

Nitrogen Rolling with laughter

Sorry, which fitter is this?

Even in racing tyres the difference nitrogen makes is negligible. Nitrogen as stated is dry so doesn't freeze in aero tyres. That is the ONLY benefit to tyres of it!

If someone can give evidence that the nitrogen has had a positive effect and counted out ALL other possible environmental and driving factors I'll buy you a replacement set of tyres.

The air you breath is 70 odd % nitrogen anyway! Mine: 2012 Golf GTI Edition 35
