Windscreen condensation....

Had the FL2 for 6 months now and very happy !
The windscreen has about 5 very small chips caused by motorway stones hitting it - seems very easy to chip !
These are not anything that will start to cause cracks (I hope), but is it worth getting these fixed or not worth the bother ? I say this because only recently I have noticed condensation on the inside of the screen in the mornings - and on a couple of times this has been frozen.... When this melts, it obviously leaves marks on the screen and I am getting fed up with cleaning those horrible smears when it dries up !
Any thoughts would be appreciated !

Chips won't cause condensation unless there holes and letting in water

It mostly down to dampness in the car, from wet shoes, coats, wet pushchairs stored in the boot

Run car with aircon and heat up full, nice and hot then open a couple of windows slightly to allow the humid air out Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Condensation is usually caused by water getting in or dampness somewhere inside the car. could be very small quantities, but I doubt it will be caused by tiny chips on your windscreen. Check your mats and carpets are dry.

If there was dampness in the car, would condensation not appear on the side windows and back window as well ?

Depends how big/wet the damp spot is as to how much condensation develops. If it was only a small area of the windscreen, I would suggest the problem would be pretty localised to that area

I dont know the technical explanation but I think it's something to do with the the windscreen being sloped rather than vertical as the side and rear glass is. I had major condensation problems on my previous Audi and its was always worse on the front and rear glass, the rear screen also being sloped on the Audi. For a free country, it does seem pretty expensive these days.

check see if your carpets are not getting wet up by the bulkhead from the aircon drain tube - apparently this was something that could come loose causing water to p Censored s over the carpets, hence possibly causing your condensation..

As for your chips.. if you dont want a new scren I suggest you get them repaired. You only need to hit a pot hole or something and one of those chips are sure to turn to a crack Thumbs Up Freelander 2 TD4 Auto, SE, Narvik Black, Alpaca full leather, Rear Headrest Entertainment System, 6 CD, 18 HSE Wheels, Privicy tints

I will check all carpets and mats ! Would a damp coat in the boot only cause condensation on the windscreen ?

Just had my FL2 (8months from new) in to the dealers for this problem.

In my case, every piece of internal glass had condensation, especially on cold frosty mornings.
Dealer reckons the moisture was getting in via the drivers door speaker!
They re-sealed the speaker and it's now just a wait and see job. So I'm hoping for a cold snap before spring has sprung!

On a positive note they gave the car a health check, This included a software update related to the air bag warning light.

Also they added 1.5 litres of oil. This is normal with a new diesel engine apparently.

Last but not least they valeted the car and got rid of all the winter dirt. Very Happy Very Happy

if it was missing 1.5 litres of oil then it would not show on the dipstick, do you never check it ?

Or the dash light not go off? did that with a previous LR and it only took 0.8 of a litre to top up to the line.

As soon as the car moves the screen is subject to wind chill. So it is colder than the other windows and gets more condensation. Unless you have had the demister or screen heater on, it will still be colder when you stop, so more condensation will form overnight. If you use de-icer in cold weather, this supercools the screen as it evaporates and causes condensation to form inside, often as ice. Aircon should clear your screen more or less instantly, as it dries out the moisture.
