That'll take out the canopies at the Peage booths I think!

Which wouldn't be the first time for me. I once took out the canopy on a petrol station forecourt with a curtainsider artic. The owner was livid until I noticed (afterwards unfortunately) and pointed out that he'd had his forecourt re-tarmaced recently and hadn't considered the decrease in headroom and changed his signs.

I'd still say it will fit inside, but if you have side steps, use them as a carrier.

I know you're all wondering.

It's a treadmill (running machine).

or on a more sensible note get as much of the large box in the boot with the seats down and close the bootlid as much as it will go and tie it down, get a builders high viz vest and tie it to the end of your box Thumbs Up

Not sure how legal it would be and how confident you would feel with the boot partly open but you pays your money and takes your chance!

My suggestion was innovative, but why not utilise the side steps? A couple of straps and your set!

It's an option but will have to take into account the 850 mile journey and possible sub zero temperatures while I decide.

Another suggestion

1) Open box
2) Remove polystyrene packaging, cardboard etc
3) Item will now fit in glovebox

Thumbs Up

seriously - it may be a good idea to open the box to see if anything can be split into smaller quantities

It's a running machine (treadmill) so the large box will be the bottom part with the belt and the other box will be the upright part with the console.

Still, if it comes down to a few centimetres that could well be necessary.

Thanks - I'll keep that as an option after I've tried the shoe horn.

Update

I bet you're all wondering if my boxes went in the Freelander? Well, I'm afraid I didn't purchase the running machine/treadmill. I figured I'd run on the roads and went to AJS Tyres and spent the money on a set of steel wheels and winter tyres. So the alloys and Wranglers went into the car as well as stocks of baked beans and tea bags for the journey back to France.

What a nice chap Andy is. I'll certainly do what I can to be in the area when I next need tyres.

And......what a nice vehicle I have! The motorway cruising was quiet and comfortable and I just love almost everything about the car except perhaps the rather small boot!

Off to the Pyrenees next week so might get to try some snow!

Thanks again to everyone who pitched in with advice.
