Metallic whining from the AC fan

Not sure if I am being paranoid or just hearing things. When I have the AC switched on especially between 1 -3 I can here a metallic whining as if the blades on the fan are just catching, however there seems to be a slight increase under load after changing down a gear.

When I turn off the AC and just have the normal fan on the noise disappears, team Valley have already change the drive belt on AC compressor, but I am taking it back in on Saturday so one of their technicians can sit in

Anyone have a similar noise or trouble with the AC

Hi,

Got the same problem here! Did they find out what caused the whining?
Been at the garage for about a week.

Please let me know, starting to get anxious... Land Rover - Go Beyond

I had this with my first Freelander , it was the heater circulation fan that needed replacement,

Same sort of thing here also. To me it sounds like the blower fan bearing has dried up.
I plan to get it looked at at the next service which is soon.

Mine used to be worse when going downhill using engine braking, apparently that rocks the engine down at the front on it's mountings which caused some kind of heatshield to foul on the blower fan housing therefore amplifying the noise.

I had all the above symptoms and finally when the tech guy was in the car with me on a test drive, he said new AC compressor straight away, as soon as heard the noise. It did take several months to get a new one as LR had them on back order. No problem since the new one has been fitted
