The instrument display on my 08 SE was quite dim on starting up in the recent cold weather but brightened to the normal level after about 5 miles or so as the car warmed up.

I am however now quite hacked off about the lack of information displayed after having a ride in my daughter's Skoda Yeti with auto box, which shows which gear is actually selected even when being used in the fully automatic mode.Seem to remember a thread on here asking about this (but could not find it using the Search option which I have never had any success with) and I for one would appreciate this facility as in my opinion it would help economic driving.

If Skoda can manage to include it if a car costing some £10k less than a FL2 so should land Rover.

The FL2 DOES display what gear you have selected (well it does on my auto) Thumbs Up Now - 2017 BMW X3 M Sport Carbon Black

Gone - 2011 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Bali Blue with xenons

I agree with the OP that the instrument display and lighting is below par on the Freelander. Indeed the whole interior looks quite retro - so that's probably why we put up with it! What a waste of audio/sat-nav display as well - no linking between the two, no reversing/hitching camera, etc AND still having to buy an extra device if you want speed camera alerts is crazy!

I had hoped that the interior would have a decent facelift on the SD4. I had a 06 CRV and its instruments were striking but clear. The fog light switches were also easy to find on the left stalk - no feeling around by your right knee!

However, for all its faults I love my F2 and certainly didn't wish to stay in the CRV world given just how ugly the present model is. Freelander 2 SD4 HSE - Ipanema Sand - MD co-pilot - Springer Spaniel in boot - Swift Challenger on the back!

That's standard unless you apply alex_pescaru's mod, http://www.freel2.com/forum/topic19314.html

From memory, it should cycle through Trip distance*, range, average fuel consumption*, average speed* or at least it did on my S.

* from last reset.

I should also have added there is also a blank screen, have you tried briefly pushing the button on the end of the indicator stalk, a long press <2 sec resets the trip etc and goes back to a blank screen.

Does it show door open, key docked etc?

I note a lot of wit, or am I only half right? But the truth is, this is a safety hazard with or without glasses, if one is trying to read the dash info in sunlight, in SA we have lots of that, more than Spain, then the time taken to try & find a readable angle can be the time an animal or human (with or without a vehicle) appears in your path. The flat green/black colour combo is also not a good choice Land Rover or not. The pictures taken at night do not show the true state as seen with the human eye, also having to look at the lower display can be problem as if you drive with both hands on the wheel this is not always visible. LR did slip on the ergonomics here as costs could not have been more to make the display more reflective & give the adjustment a wider range. Perhaps they should have consulted "Posh" sooner. Rolling Eyes "Other" car: Defender TD5 CSW 90.
Ex LR's owned: Series 2a SW short, Series 3 SW petrol 6 cylinder long, Series 3 pickup petrol long, Series 3 pickup diesel, long.
"Other makes", ex cars too many to list here, total over 5 bar klicks covered.

I never had issues reading any of the dash info and I wear glasses for distance.
However, when I wear prescription sunglasses, which have a polarising layer, they make reading of the radio display impossible. I have to tilt my head to be able to read it (same effect as turnung polarising filter on a camera lens when photographing)
Same goes with dash displays, but not as bad as with radio display. I can still read dash info with my sunglasses on, just not as easy as with normal glasses.

Yes that's normal. When driving during the day, the dash lights are stronger for better visibility. When its dark outside and you turn headlights in, the lights dim to prevent dazzling the driver.
