Looking at the likes of drivethedeal and broadspeed, would you expect a main dealer to be able to get close to their prices?

They do claim to use main dealers to supply their cars...

Seems the dealer I'm speaking to and I are some way out on a cost to change and as I don't need to do anything I'm in a position to wait until a better opportunity presents itself.

I think the recent snow and potential for more has put dealers of able vehicles in a strong position.
If you are changing from a 2WD to a Landrover, now is a bad time to do it financially - simply because it's a great time to do it from a 'travel' perspective.
If, however, you're trading a 4WD you should expect a good PX value but that value will fall in spring when we're the bad guys again.
Good ol' supply-and-demand!

Yes I did think about that, but I don't know if that applies as much to new vehicles as it does to used vehicle sales (I want it now!!)?

Ultimately my current car is brought and paid for and there's no rush to change so if the right deal doesn't present itself now I can just sit tight and wait until it does.

I'm sure dealers have less need to offer incentives/discounts etc. when sales are brisk so new cars are probably being sold for close to retail right now. Encouraging what they call 'footfall' in summer for 4WD cars tends to result in better offers. That's the time when the sports/rag top cars fetch their money!

So if you've got a cabriolet (do they still call them that?) to trade in wait until the sun's out.

Tell us how close you want to get and we'll give it our best shot. If we can't then at least we've tried.

In my recent experience, they can get close but not match.

I've used Broadspeed before and had no problems, but they are reliant on dealers supplying them cars and cannot always source exactly the spec you want. My delivery date kept shifting to what was almost five months. It was originally two

Also, expect rock bottom price for any part ex, as all the margin has been used on the discount. Remember, it's all about the cost to change if you have a part ex involved.

Use the online brokers prices as a starting point and go from there.

Close would be good enough - I'd like to think I'm a realist.

I think it's a case of whether I want to be padding around dealer after dealer or just accepting that p/x values aint as good as I'd like to think they should be - I should add I'm not blinkered on p/x values, it is cost to change that I'm interested in but that's still a combination of p/x vs. vehicle price.

Been reading here for over a year now.
Finally signed up to post a hopefully helpful reply.

Was looking to buy new 12 months ago. Did the usual 'Honest John' website trawl of 'best deals' & 'Drivethedeal' came out best.
Then spent time on the phone finding someone to price match, got lots of poor replies from dealers initially, but eventually found Stratones at Bury (approx 60 miles from me) to price match. This was before the bad weather price hikes - so I guess i bought at a good time. They also gave me trade price on a px - so none of the big discounts at one end & then giving me nothing for my px. In fact they gave me two px prices - one for end Jan (ie when I placed order) & one for 1st March,(delivery date), (there was still a little warranty remaining).

Also did a similar thing last summer for my Niece. She bought a new Fiesta, a few phone calls is all it took to price match & a little patience with the dealers that tell you allsorts about internet brokers.

FYI A pal of mine used Drivethedeal & said it was dead easy & straightforward. After intial contact with Drivethedeal he was put in touch with the supplying dealer

Have Patience & Push them Hard.

Hi, this is my first post. Just ordered one today for March delivery.
Freelander 2, sD4 190bhp XS Auto and got 9% off the list price with a dealer, including part-ex. You just need to start very low (eg 11% off) haggle hard over the phone but remain polite, give a little but ultimately be prepared to go to another dealer (or broker).
Even got decent part-ex for my existing car (we'd already fixed the partex value pre-haggle to avoid any confusion).

Bigger discounts on the global horror that is the 4x4, the surest sign yet that spring is almost upon us  For a free country, it does seem pretty expensive these days.

Was at my dealer on Friday having my B Pillar trims replaced (no quibble, just got them in and did it while I waited). Anyway, they had almost no stock! In the showroom they had 2 x FL2 SD4 HSEs both priced at nearly £40K!!!!! 1 x Disco 4, 1 x RRS and a second hand FFRR. There were no second hand cars on their for sale boards and very little on the forecourt.
