2011 Freelander 2 SD4 XS Auto Santorini Black
Wanted: Jack and Wheelbrace

Having bought a spare wheel for my spare-wheelless-bought-off-the-showroom-floor MY 11 SD4, I now need a jack and wheelbrace, to replace my 'can of gunk and a pump' LR supply.

Well at least a jack, a suitable wheelbrace will be easy to source.

Anybody got one to sell? Trevor

Not many seen on Ebay and when they are the postage is out of this world. Why not go to Halfords and buy something appropriate. No one will see it in the boot.

I remember someone on here saying that a good little bottle jack was far easier to use and source. Thumbs Up

One problem I have is - I don't know what a Freelander jack looks like. I was assuming it is a big scissor jack - single sided? - double sided?

Also until I get my spare wheel delivered (next week) I don't know what space there is left under the floor for a non-Landrover item.

Anybody got photos? Trevor

The jack is like a slightly more reinforced or better built ordinary one, a single scissor jack. mind you the same holds true on the bigger Land Rovers. As for where the wheelbrace etc fits, it's under the spare wheel. Bigger Land rovers. there is a hatch on the right hand side in the rear comaprtment.

I thought the jack a bit flimsy when I had a puncture......The wheelbrace is quite short, it clips to the jack for storage. Having been caught out many years ago with a standard brace not coping with garage tightened nuts I always carry an extending brace with socket style fitting. I had to buy a new socket for the FR2 Upgraded to an ex demo, 7 mth old, Rimini Red/Ebony Napoli Auto HSE on 28th Jan 2011, added roof rails, mudflaps and side strips.
Gone - A great 57 Plate, Auto SE, Bought Feb 2009, Roof Rails and Mudflaps added on purchase. Blue colour, anything but drug dealer black.....

The Standard Jack & brace is a cheap flimsy affair, swapped mine for a small bottle jack and a extendable brace and socket wrapped in a towel (to stop rattling in the wheel well) This was posted on here sometime back and it was excellent advice Thumbs Up
Total cost less than £20 from machinemart.

Machine mart do a standard scissor jack for a tenner that I would image will do the job and fit in the spare wheel well. For a free country, it does seem pretty expensive these days.

How much lift do you need to take off a wheel?

As an old Defender offroader,

I would rather use something like this,

but doubt whether it would fit under the boot floor

This Bottle Jack

from Screwfix, for example has a min-max range of 181-345mm. That would appear to give about 15mm of lift (just dashed out in the pouring rain to measure the sill hight which I measured as about 330mm)- clearly not enough to use under the jacking points.

This one, also Screwfix goes up to 390mm .

So are we talking about using a bottle jack under the suspension arms - how high would it need to go? Trevor

Thanks

Apparently a new one's only £24... Somebody has bid £19.99 already on that ebay item.

I hadn't realised how cheap they were, so will just buy a new one Trevor
