Burning smell...?

I have the new my11 model SD4 and twice now in the last month there seems to be a burning smell coming from outside. It smells almost like a brake disc has been rubbing. Its a strong smell, but it goes within a few minutes of stopping.
My wife checked with land rover and they said i was the DPF, and its the same on the new discoveries.

Could this really be the case?
Has anyone else with DPF fitted noticed anything like it?

There are no warning lights saying anything is wrong and the temp gauge is normal.

Thanks again for your thoughts.

I have never smelled my DPF....Than again I'm not sure I have one......Wasn't the FL" first realeased without DPF hence the 160bhp version?

Other that that I'm not sure what it could be. It is a new car and there are plenty of new parts that has to be worn in.

I get the smell of burning on a new car. I've always presumed it's wax or lubricant on the engine or exhaust buning off.

United Kingdom 2011 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Lago Grey

Hi, my 2011 GS also does this intermittently. Seems to coincide with reversing a trailer where I have to slip the clutch to keep the speed down. Has become less frequent with use - had it since mid Nov and now has around 1500 miles. There have been a few other posts on here concerning "smells" so we are not alone. Hope this helps

I also have the my11 model SD4 and have noticed the same smell on a couple of occasions; like a slipping clutch smell. Dealer mechanic confirmed its the DPF cleaning procedure working correctly. There is reference to this in the vehicle handbook.

Have noticed this twice on mine - but only when traveling at urban speeds.
When the LRA technician attended my breakdown, he confirmed the smell was due to DPF... Rolling Eyes
Have recently passed the 5000m barrier and everything OK since the software update I had in November Thumbs Up
