new rubber mats smell.....

I recently purchased from ebay a full set of rubber fitted mats for the winter including boot liner.
Before I fitted them the car smelt of leather. Now it stinks of rubber, and gives me a headache. I'm guessing its because the rubber used is cheap?!
I know the official Landrover ones are a lot more expensive, but do they too leave a rubber smell throughout the car, or do you think giving the new cheaper ones a good soaping wash would help?

Thanks for your feedback.

I got a set of the genuine ones included when I bought mine and they don't smell. Worth trying to get rid of the smell by washing but I have my doubts that will work. Andyfr

The orginals do whiff a bit. Not overpowering, but it's the smell of latex.............. feel this could go off topic!
