Obviously I am biased but I disgree with this. The FL2 wins easily.

The BMW 'won' this because it is brand new and fair play to its build quality and refinment Thumbs Up

The fact is though, when it comes to 4x4's, BMW is a poor badge compared to Land Rover. We have the best badge by far.

This time, BMW seem to be claiming the X3 can perform off road where they never bothered with off road abilities with the original. Bring it to a proper off road course though and the FL2 would kick its ass.

A good attempt with good quality but all things considered...........

I think the LR will always win if you do a lot of off-roading but for the average motorist (who doesn't) I think they have got this article spot on

United Kingdom 2011 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Auto Bali Blue

Check out the facts and figures section and prepare for a shock!!!

The X3 starts at £32K but the version tested is a shade under £40K
The Q5 starts at £35K but the version tested is a shade under £50K Shocked
The XC60 starts at £35K but the version tested is £46K Shocked
The FL2 starts at £36K and they stuck £2.5K's worth of options on it (Windsor leather and the upgraded alloys I guess)

So their comment at the end of the FL2 review stating "our top-spec HSE is the most costly car here" is a load of bCensored ks Now - 2017 BMW X3 M Sport Carbon Black
Gone - 2014 BMW X3 M Sport Space Grey, faultless!
Gone - 2011 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Bali Blue with xenons
Gone - 2008 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Rimini Red with bodykit

They also say that the fl2 has by far the worst deprecation, yet other sources say fl2 is one of the UK's least depreciating cars Confused
odd Confused or is it that the HSE looses value faster?

Knowing auto express any Ford or Citroen entered in that test would have won by a mile anyway Rolling Eyes At work

Having just Pex'd a 57 plate FL2 for a My11 one the deal I got showed a retained value of approximately 60% of cost when new - seems good to me even better for the Dealer, he has it on the forcourt for a tidy profit too.

I AM NOT RETAINED OR RECEIVE REWARD OF ANY NATURE FROM LAND ROVER

In 2010 the following awards were received:

FL2: Best Compact SUV - Auto Express UK Car of Year Awards
D4: Best 4x4 - What Car UK, Best All Terrain 4WD and Best Diesel - Australia's Best Cars Award, Best 4x4 Diesel - The Diesel Car UK.
RRS: Best 4x4 - Auto Bild Germany, Best Design Off Roader - AutoMotor-Sport Autonis Award Germany.
RR: Car-of-the-Decade - Autocar UK, Best Full-Size Off Road Vehicle - Car of Year Awards Russia.

LR models have received many more "best-in-class" awards from around the world - too many for me to list on here, so I've only listed those regions from where Freel2 has particularly active members. Apologies if your country has not been mentioned.

UK Glass's Guide: Residuals' Winners 2010 Top Ten - FL2 GS TD4 Auto 4th, D3 2.7 TDV6 6th, RRS 2.7 TDV6 9th.

Not in Norway where they are perceived as overpriced, unreliable, fuel consuming, overrated status, outdated SUV's by the motoring press Twisted Evil
Hardly suprising they are going the same way as the Great Auk did many years ago Whistle

Still glad I got mine, even if it is becoming a rare bird here too Thumbs Up 2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.

Andy, there are always "black spots" on a global map of success.

Here in CH it is also rare to find motoring Jurnos handing out accolades to anything other than that "Made in Germany or Japan", however, Skoda does get glowing column inches due to its German parentage.
