Well I knew this Push Button Business was begging to go wrong!!

I have now owned 'Freddie' for just over a month.

Within a Fortnight I was experiencing diffculties!!

On trying to start I began to get an error Message 'HDC System Fault' and he refused to start

After a few (varying amounts) of removing the key reinserting - jumping out locking and unlocking and having differing amounts of goes at it, it would eventually start.

So I popped along to my local friendly land Rover Dealer (hurrah for the ever necessary Land Rover Warranty ) and they began to have a look.

As with all so called mechanics these days he was 'plugged in' and all his 'faults' (jesus how many could there be!!) were cleared!!

It was on three attempts that the fault was 'sorted' and I got in the car to pull off the forecourt and it blooming well hadn't that they finally admitted defeat and Faxed Land Rover!!

Now whilst I wasnt entirely miffed with my HSE Spec 57 Plate D3 in exchange - it was a further three days before Freddie was ACTUALLY back in action.

Here we are three weeks down the line and guess what...... Oh yes 'HDC System Fault' IS BACK

Whilst I have every faith in my Land Rover Dealer has any one heard anything about this or know anything about it??

This was once a very common fault but I dont think this fault has happened to an 08 or newer car so somebody somewhere knows how to mend it.

You appear to be very unlucky as normally black fl2's are much more reliable than the other colours, check yours isn't a resprayed grey one  At work

Mmm wish it was Red or Grey for that matter!! However the current Rocking Horse Poo Second hand car situation prevailed and I ended up with the scratch magnet!!!!

He has behaved himself since - but last time it progressively got worse so we shall see!!

They mentioned a sensor tho I'm not sure which - apparently damp gets in them??? Or that could just be Dealer schpiel!! However they had changed that and that was pre-problem resolution.

To be honest by the time I went and picked it back up I'd thoroughly had enough and never bothered asking what had finally sorted it

I keep getting HDC fault, system not available and the car refuses to start. After ejecting the key several times the system eventually resets and the car starts. Dealer cannot find a fault. Delighted with our (first) FL2 after 10 days of ownership. Imagine my sadness when presented with the above error and failure to start this morning . Apart from key refusing to eject I noticed the interior light was barely illuminated and fading fast! After another 3 attempts to start everything went quiet (ignition, stereo etc). Checked battery voltage = 9.5Vdc. So a quick trip to Halfords and £123 lighter (Bosch Silver car battery "HSB096"), now have 12.55Vdc and charging at 14.3Vdc.

Hopefully this is the last trouble we'll have this year....! Damn look at the time! Happy New Year!!

follow this up with a quick trip back to whoever you bought the car from, present them with the receipt for the new battery and see what they say. This won't have been a new problem and although the cold will affect the starting the battery shouldn't just die like that.

Make sure you get the receipt back - the battery guarantee is void without it!

Also check that you are not inadvertently draining the battery - you must always lock the car with a double click, or the electrics will not power down. I have had this problem once, and I think it was down to using the rear door unlock button to open the car. Although the car locks automatically when the door is shut again, I suspect that it must still be double locked again to power everything down.

DrownedRat & Past master, Thank you for your replies with the extra information.

Regarding the receipt, I did contact the dealer we purchased the FL2 from who apologised and without hesitation paid for the replacement battery after I'd emailed the scanned receipt to him. Looking at the old battery it has LR labelling on it making me suspect it is the original one so 4 years old in December 2010.

Regarding the unlocking/locking I've never heard of this before, I'll bear this in mind if I get further problems (Hopefully not though!)
