My car will not start -10. Sad
I've tried everything I could.
But yesterday I bought a new battery.
And the machine worked. Razz Bow down

you use additives into diesel fuel in the winter?
Question I'm sorry.
I did not know how to properly speak English.

United Kingdom 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 XS Manual Santorini Black

I have had a few problems starting my FL2 in the mornings, as a previous post will back up, the engine would crank forever but not fire up at all, then the battery died. Recharged and as I had to take my son to Dublin for treatment, I needed the car to start in the mornings, took it to Stuarts Land Rover Franchise, Dublin told them the problem even though they were very busy, took my FL2 in checked the battery no probs there, they let the vehicle shut down after 15 minutes something was draining the battery at about 1 amp per hour they reckoned, the senior technician told me it was probably the after market fitted dvd players in the headrest, disconnected the dvd players and the battery fairs a lot better now, also he said for the start up procedure, if its below -5 you should press the start button foot off clutch, but wait up to 10 seconds then start as normal. Been doing this but it still usually takes two long turning over to fire up, (15 secs each time). I have a 2006 Freebee as well she starts first time every time, even when it been sitting in this weather for a week. Upbeat of it all is I will be getting the FL2 fully serviced next month in Dublin, as they worked on it for just over an hour and charged me 29 euros for the bother. [/b] WAMMG

That's very interesting about your beemer. I will try measuring the battery as you suggested.

The temperature was only -2c this morning so she started after about 5 seconds without not too much smoke.

It's snowing like hell again and supposed to be about minus 10 tonight, so tommorrow morning will be interesting!!

Wish me luck!

Exclamation

The Gas/Petrol Automatics sold in Canada are Volvo V6 Engines. Same has the Volvo S80 and X series SUV's

I had no problem starting here last winter.

Nope, straight 6, not V6 in LR2.

Never had a problem in 10 years and 130tho with the TD4 original Freelander.
Turn Key, instant fire-up, no cranking, ever. (but it was BMW)
Took half an hour for the heater to wake up though. Offset your Carbon emissions by boycotting Baked Beans and all Green Vegitables.

I've had problems starting my Freel-2 in very cold temperatures too.
sunday at -11 it wouldn't start at all, got the HDC error message up, put battery on charge and left it for a good few hours, still it wouldn't start so we had RAC out to it, who sprayed it with Easy Start and got it going. he suggested poss faulty glow plug(s) but Dealership can't fit it in until 5th Jan at the earliest  By the time they've had it in, ordered the parts and got them in, it will be spring and problem "solved"

Cate - sound like my FL2 could be having the same problem -i.e faulty glow plug(s)? After being on charge all night I still had trouble starting her. I tested the battery and it is definately not that. When I got her to fire (eventually) she ran rough for about 30 secs then calmed down.

My FL2 is now out of warranty - and I am wondering if it is glow plugs that need changing how much it is going to cost - does anyone out there know?

I have heard most LR dealers don't keep glow plugs in stock for FL2's as they consider it so unlikley that such a young car should need them!!

Cate - I notice your FL2 is also an 07' (ie a fairly early model) - I wonder if LR had a bad batch of glow plugs in the early models?

It's typical that the one time you trully need a 4x4 is the one time our LR's start playing up!! Rolling Eyes

I'm not keen for the dealer to have it to be honest, they've not impressed me in the past. I had Freelander 1 before this one and when that was puffing along like a steam train they suggested it was because it was raining!!! It turned out to be the oil breather. . .

I also have an alloy wheel on order from them, under warranty, been on order since May which they are "chasing up" yes of course you are.

Anyway, back to the point, I got a price of £10/each to buy glow plugs for FL2, with 24 hours delivery time, then they need fitting - I have no idea how difficult a task that may or may not be?

Cate - when you do get your FL2's plugs changed in the new year I would be fascinated to know how much they charged.

I love my FL2 but I have had a string of problems with it, and I am getting pig sick of the agro.

If it's going to be big money to change the plugs then it could be time to say goodbye to her!

I hate to say it but the Japanese have the reliability pegged - my our Subaru is now 7 years old and has never put a foot wrong - why can,t LR do this? Confused

Anyone here with starting problems using 2T oil Question

It doesn't mix with diesel too well as it's not designed to either as some people claim, and it will also block the fuel filter over time Exclamation

Plenty of info about it on the web if your vehicle is post 1997. ______________________
