When you are descending a hill under HDC control (forward or reverse) and the track is smooth enough to enable you to speed up a bit, press and hold the cruise control + button on the steering wheel to speed up and - to slow down. It will go up to about 10-12 MPH.

Touching the throttle will kick out the HDC.

Although the manual says that HDC only works in 1st, put it in 2nd, ignore the screen that says "HDC not available in this gear" and the HDC will hold you back as normal but at a higher speed than in 1st, probably the 10-12 MPH that you can adjust it up to, as above.

Hi, I had asked under technical queries if anyone had used HDC in gears other than first/reversel without much success.

and, HDC works in neutral .... 2008 Freelander2 GS TD4
New steering pump and rack fitted 10000 miles (warranty)
Driver's seat started 'dropping' 30000 miles
Rear parking sensors giving continuous tone when raining heavy 35000 miles
Rear parking brake siezed 40000 ... new rear disks and pads (warranty)
Clutch slipping 54,000 ... new clutch ... £800 ! ... (not warranty)
Rear diff bearings replaced at 60,000 and 85,000 (warranty)
New DMF and clutch, rear diff (uprated nose bearing), front and rear disks at 115,000

THAT I've got to try tomorrow.  We Don't Care About Pot Holes !!

I wish it did....if I'm in neutral on my manual the display warns me that HDC is not available in this gear! As a matter of interest, how old is your car?...Mine is an 07.

You will know if its working by the unique sounds heard on a downward steep slop as each wheel is constantly braked and unbraked to keep traction

Yep, HDC works on my 08 manual in Neutral.

Thanks guys - you're right, of course...I've tried mine out on my 07 manual now and HDC does seem to work in R, 1st, 2nd and I think i 3rd (and Neutral) - despite the flashing light and warning message - that'll teach me to believe what it tells me!
