Washer fluid leak

Only done just over 1,000 miles from new so today was the first time I had to top up the washer reservoir, it's dribbling out somewhere behind the front bumper. I have phoned the dealer and I'm going to pop in later to see what the problem is. Not the time of year to have no washers. Mad Andyfr

Possibly. I don't know what percentage additive they put in at the factory. I was topping up with neat additive. Andyfr

It was still dribbling out after 30 minutes. Must have lost at least a litre. Andyfr

Looks like the front bumper will have to come off. Booked in for next week. Fortunately the reservoir doesn't empty completely. Andyfr

I think you might find that because of the extreme cold weather we have been having the headlamp washer nozzles are frozen because the fluid doesnt have enough additive in it, then if they operate the pressure produced because the water cant exit the jets causes the hoses to blow off the back of the nozzles, I know this happens with Volvos because a service engineer I know says its a right pain in the bum as they have to remove bumper assembly to repair the damage and its a regular thing in winter, so either put plenty of screen wash fluid in so it doesnt freeze or dont use the washers when the headlights are on. I was only wrong once and thats when I thought I was but wasnt.

I could see the top of the washer bottle the other day when I had my head lamp out,

Might be worth a five min look to see if it's cracked or a loose pipe, saves a dealer trip etc Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Haven't had the problem (yet) with the headlamp washers, but regularly get the problem with the windscreen washers. The pipe pops off jet under the bonnet and you need to remove the insulation/padding to reconnect the pipe.

I kept thinking that having heated washer jets would bring an end to frosted up jets. WRONG!

Today they activated as normal with heated windscreen and even after 16 mile trip to work they had not defrosted. I used the heated screen button several times (cos it switches itself off) to no avail. There were some puddles of melted ice on the bonnet where the heater had worked but they still would not fire. Only when leaving work at 5pm today did they work! Bloody things Mad LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

Its probably the water in the pipe that's frozen! try a better mix of screen wash! Smile

The heated washer jets are on all the time regardless of anything else switched on/off! Thumbs Up

Stownrow,
How have your new 'retro' fit heated jets behaved?
Hope they have been useful.
