We jacked both back and front up in turn and checked all we could. Doesn't seem to be any access play in the drive shafts or prop', wheels span nice and free without any sideways play or noise. Took car out for a spin but my brother couldn't put a finger on the noise and agreed it 'sounded' like tyre wear but the tyres are new on the rear and very evenly worn across the front so doubted it too I'll try and find some land large enough to turn the car fairly hard right and left tomorrow, apparently that will eliminate the possibility of a worn bearing if the noise doesn't stop? Was keeping all crossed on identifying the source of this damn noise today but sadly it didn't happen. Not much gets past my brother, he's usually quick to identify anything but not this time

I took the car to an independant today, taking it back friday so they can put it on a ramp and spin the wheels up under load to try and source the noise. I have noticed as well that when slowing down (coasting) from 30mph to stop the noise sounds like an old landrover with knobbly tyres on ...it's as if there is something rubber like rubbing hard across the tread of the tyre! if that makes sense?

Diff gone ................between £1100 and £1200 depending on where I take it, but apparently LR haven't got any!, or are stating 'critical' on supply to sort warranty issues first. Not a good day. The only upside is the quote to fit wasn't quite as bad as i'd of thought @ £275 inc.


Also one LR dealer I rang is stating there are potentially two types of diff' fitted to the 07 model, with a difference in price of over £400? anyone know if this is right or not??

Anyone know what warranty a new diff' comes with if fitted by LR??

I've been reading your posts and I'm afraid I have the same problem. I noticed a kind of tire ticking like noise starting to become noticeable around 80 km/h and up. It is also there at lower speeds but less noticeable. Took the car (TD4 MY07) to the dealer and after a testdrive the mechanic said it was probably a bad tire. I allready swapped the rear tires/wheels to the front before visiting the dealer. This gave me the impression that the ticking also shifted to the front of the car. I now have the tires trimmed and the wheels balanced (all 4) and notice now that the slight ticking seems to come from the frond LHS. The guys from the tire shop did comment that the tire which was original fitted on the rear RHS was slightly cupped. The ticking seems to be once every full turn of the wheels. It does not matter whether I put down the clutch or take it out of gear the ticking remains so it should be in the drive line in my opinion. When increasing speed the ticking is also increasing in ticks per second. The ticking gives a slight vibration in the car, but not in the steering wheel. You can feel it in the seats and on the floor of the car.

I made a small test climb last weekend up a hill which I definately could not do without 4WD and that gave absolutely no probs. I this respect I assume that the dif is still functioning properly.

Do you recognize the above mentioned?
