Misting up

Hi all,
I own a FL2 GS 2010 which I picked up this May.

Now that the mornings are getting cooler, I've used the Maximum Defrost Program (Prog. button) to help clear the frost off the windscreen.
This button activates the fan, heated wing mirrors and rear screen heat. It works reasonably well, but, the interior of the car gets badly misted, so much so that I have to wipe the interior of both sides and front windscreen before I can move off.

Logic tells me that this is because the "Prog" button turns off the climate control, which allows fresh (damp) air in.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is it normal?
If so, does your car mist up as well?

Prog actually turns the AC on,

I found it's best to have the AC on at this time of year

Also wiping a window will make it take longer to clear, a spot free clean window demist alot quicker Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

I echo Nick's response, although it does depend on whether you have an electrically heated screen (do all models have one?). I find that the prog button is excellent, but you need to let it do it's job and be patient. Give the inside of your screen a thorough clean and then avoid touching it until it next needs a thorough clean.
I never turn off the AC. It is beneficial in winter and probably presents little load on the engine in colder weather since it will rarely be actually in cooling mode.

Thanks for the replies Very Happy

Just went out to the car. Started it up. I always have A/C on when the car starts.

The last few times I used the Prog. button the A/C light went out!

Turned off A/C and hit the Prog. button and yes, the A/C came on!

Switched off, then on with A/C on and yes, the A/C stayed on.

All I can think it was is possibly a sticky relay or something.

I'll try it again tomorrow morning.

Interesting?
Not sure that's working correctly. Can't check just now as mine's in for MOT, but will check when I get it back.
If it is different, I imagine that a firmware upgrade (always with the firmware!) would resolve it.

Never been a problem here - the prog button always clears the ice, snow, mist and dampness inside and out. In fact its the first car that I never have to scrape iced windows Thumbs Up 2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.

OOhhhh that drives me nuts when someone I am giving a lift decides to 'helpfully' wipe the window with their greasy mitts!

Agreed Snappa!

Air Conditioning does also have a slight habit sometimes as soon as it is turned on when the car is started to cough a bit of mist onto the screens but only for a second or 2. Mine: 2012 Golf GTI Edition 35

I'll have a look under the mats, but it's never misted like this before i.e. Every window.

Tried the Prog. again this morning (A/C stayed on) no misting at all!

I'll have to keep my eye on this.

edit; Just checked under the mats and it's bone dry.

Surely the light is on when economy is selected, ie, air con is off. If the light is off, then your air con is switched on. Your description is exactly as I would expect it to work but I'm not sure if your understanding is not 180 degrees out? I certainly don't have any misting problems with the air con on and it gets a lot of use this time of year.

Most manufactures advise the use of the air con to demist the car as the system removes moisture from the air,
reducing misting up. On some cars we have had it's the only way to stop the screen misting up.

There seems to be a little confusion creeping in Confused

1st off, The A/C is always on in my car (as per the manufacturers recommendations).

2nd. The Econ is always on.

3rd. I have never had any misting problems from day one.

4th. The misting problem occurred twice: Every piece of interior glass was misted.

I couldn't understand why this was happening, until the second time when I noticed that the A/C was off (light off as well). I had not turned it off.

As my A/C is by default always on, I could only assume that when I hit the Prog. button the A/C was somehow turned off.

Either, I by accident hit the A/C button, (not very likely), or it was turned off when I turned on the Prog. button.

It has not happened since, as I always check that the A/C button is still lit after I hit the Prog. button.

Hope this makes things a little clearer. Smile

Well I'm certainly confused The Econ mode switches A/C off in mine (as it says in the handbook).
