But seriously, the manual FL2 TD4-e is not a thirsty beast if driven wisely Very Happy

And, credit must go to LR who stated that the manual TD4-e would do 6.7ltrs/100kms and our FL2 did on the last refuel 7.17ltrs/100kms locally here in these mountains Thumbs Up

I had wondered about these "super fuels" so have used Vmax diesel for the last 5 or so fillups. The mpg was noticeably better than on normal diesel - enough to balance the extra price. I was told that it takes some time for the ECU to adapt the engine parameters to the new quality of fuel.
After the last fillup I decided to see just how high I could get the mpg so drove very carefully, highest possible gear, 50 -60 on the motorway (in with the trucks!) and all the other tricks. On the mpg readout after 180 miles I had achieved 47MPG!!!!! But boredom took over at this point and I started driving more "normally" After another 100 miles or so the readout has dropped to 44.4.
I still think that is pretty amazing. To put it in context I had averaged, on ordinary diesel, 37 mpg for the previous 15,000 miles (between services I didn`t rest the trip).
Which begs a question - If the diesel mix can make this significant difference, why don`t they make all diesel to this recipe and save 1000's of gallons of fuel, air contaminants and money? (and I realise the cynical answer is because they can charge more money for it)
update - Just done about 650miles now driving "normally" - readout is at 41.7. Don`t drive faster than your angel can fly!

I think i am driving the same and with my accidental fill up with Vmax i think my mpg is down

on the fuelsaver stuff my normal daily avg mpg was 22-24mpg on this VMax is AVG 19mpg Shocked Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

i am though, i have slippers on when driving, just lots and lots of short trips dont help

motorway cruising does make the mpg go normal, face it the FL2 isn't really a city car, if i wanted that i used the spare company smart car Laughing

maybe its the ECU not been used to VMax Confused Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Get a manual gearbox and your mpg improves instantly - even with your lead boot Wink

i have had a manual FL2 got 400miles to a tank instead of the auto's 320

doubt i will go back to a manual autos are so much easier for towing and playing off road (which i still have to do) Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

I hope all you guys using Shell fuel have a Shell Drivers Club or V-Power Club card. If not, your missing cash rebates.

I do a fair amount of miles and, after a visit to their labs in Holland and UK, have great faith in Shell. Price locally is always close to supermarkets and you get all that quality too. The Club card sends me discount vouchers every quarter for cash off fuel - last quarter I got £16 back/off (OK, that is best yet).

I use V-Power when away from home and alternate fills when local. I put in Miller Diesel Power Plus when I use regular Diesel and can't say I've noticed much change with the Fuel Saver blend - consumpion goes up and down each tank due to varying driving and different pumps (actual fuel delivery can be between +1% and -0.5% out legally!). My average over 45k miles is 38.6 and best tankful 42.37 - trip meter average is always better than my calculation, average 40.1 compared with 38.6, last tank 39.9 trip computer vs. 38.8 calculated Gone... 2013 XS TD4 Manual Firenze Red

I have used Millers additive for years but I noticed when I got my 2011MY it says in the warranty exclusions that no additives should be used in either the oil or fuel. Andyfr

I have always used V Power, when we first got the car, 420 to 450 miles was about the average we got to a tank full.

Now the car has 41000 miles on it, things are for sure improving, 475 to 500 miles is not uncommon now. I will be trying the fuel save diesel though to see how this fairs. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Alpine DVD - Privacy -Evoque 20" Dynamic Wheels and more to come.........
