Watch anything permantently connected to the wiring loom. If you have a problem with the electrics, they will back out of a warranty claim.

So the headrests have gone in now... all in all the total install probably took 3 hours but that was including finding tools and fixing my finger tip back on with a plaster

Headrests went in easy enough, watch out for the metal cross braces in the back of the chair - they are as sharp as anything (cuts to prove) and my advice would be to just use fingers on the clips at the bottom of the chair, a screwdriver is sure to slip and rip your leather!

My one tip would be to try and get your hand up enough so you can feel the bottom of the head rest channel where the cable will come out. It was very easy for the cable to go either side hence it needed a bit of persuasion. I don’t think I have very long arms but after I contorted myself so I was lying on the rear floor I was easily able to reach the cable.

I got a lead in tesco for £19.99 and works fine, i tried one from ebay at £15.99 and would not work at all.

WOOHOO - got a lead of ebay that was not an apple rip off lead that works for nano 5g and iphone 3g with version 3os and it works brill with the screens... even with the LandRover splitters the image is good with no loss of quality

Probably a bit late now, but be aware some of the 'cheaper' leads aren't very good quality. I bought one hoping to save a bit of money but after about a week, it started playing up as the connector became loose. Paid out for proper Apple one and have no problems ever since (over 1 year). Phil

I think these must be different kits. There is no SD card function, just AV inputs and no remote control (unless you are referring to the IR headphones?

There are at least 2 versions of the the Land Rover Rear Entertainment system for the Freelander 2 / LR2.

Version 1 is the most popular one with audio/video inputs placed in the center console cubby box. It has curved top flush fitting video screens in the headrest.

Version 2 has redesigned audio/video inputs with an SD card slot. The inputs appear to go in place of the rear audio controls (for upgraded stereo) at the back of the center console. They also have an additional power plug. I have not seen these in person so any more information would be appreciated. Version 2 has recessed square video screens that do not appear as flush as version 1.

hmmm the version 2 one looks good. I wonder if you can just retro fit the centre console bit to a version 1 type as I could make use of that SD slot.

I ve posted some information about the install on the technical section but I have to say the system is excellent.

Purchased mine from Cowley Direct @£195.00 which is a bargain as I've just seen a company selling on ebay for £495.00!

Can't recommend Cowley Direct enough as they were very helpful during the purchase with advice.

This system is straight forward to fit providing you are reasonably technical.

The guide by Freel2 member Chris is better than the actual fitting instructions so do use them.

Went to a local installer who was making a big deal over fitting the system and quoting £150 plus to fit so did it myself and I would advise you all to do the same and save the cash.

I thought I would post this as it may help one or two planning to install an under seat dvd unit to work with the Land Rover connectivity system.

I situated the player on top of the navigation dvd and assumed it would fairly easy to wire into the 12volt accessory socket at the rear of the centre console, well it was'nt infact after a week of trying to hard wire the unit I resorted to a Professional fiitter who did in just under two hours.

There is all sorts of constant and switchable power supply in the console so would not suggest you attempt this unless you are switch on with car electronics. Unlike the connectivity system which is plug and play the Veba unit has next to no instruction on how to fit.

The Veba unit comes with 3 wires to the loom 2 positive (one constant & one switchable) plus GRND. Well when the engineer came even he had to wire back the fuse box in the rear of the car and he soldered connection to the AV socket in the console so you get sound in the car when selecting AUX on the dash so your 2 year olds don't have to wrestle with headphones......

The dolby surround sound in the car is amazing and all together the system is a major improvement on the in car entertainment although for a car costing nearly £36,000 new it ought to be standard. (It was in my previous car Jeep Grand Cherokee Overlander).
