Shell Fuel Saver

Hi all,

Has anyone tried that new Shell Fuel Saver diesel yet ?

I normally put £70 a fortnight in the FL of Asda's fuel (I know this isnt the best fuel in the world, but cheap & local) - from this I get 350-400 miles (consistently over the last 4 months or so). .

I filled up a few weeks ago with the new Shell Fuel Saver Diesel & got a surprising 500 miles from the tank !!

I'm on target to hit another 500 miles from this tank, so it cant be a coincidence.

Anyone else seen an improvement with this fuel ?

Cheers

fuelsave diesel is supposed to save you upto 1 litre per tank

so 1 litre is 0.2 gallons

350 - 400 miles (at a guess 60 litres of fuel) is 26.52 - 30.31mpg (28.4mpg avg)

you say you get an extra 100 -150 miles from your extra 0.2 gallons, so to do an extra 100-150 miles on 0.2 gallons your mpg must go to 454.6-681.9mpg Confused

or you say 500miles on 59 litres of fuel (60 less the 1 litre they say you save) gives you 38.53mpg)

My thoughts are that driving styles also change because your seeing IF you can get those extra miles, as i can not see any fuel providing you with a extra 10 mpg

Like Imorris, I too use Vpower. Yes its a few pence a litre more expensive, but £3-4 extra on a tank that costs £70+ is not a lot. (122 p/l)

My driving style hasn't changed, in fact it may even be a little more aggressive as I enjoy the extra "free" miles.

Computer says I'm getting 35.6mpg

I'll update after this tank, but I'm getting a LOT more for my cash ??

My car only has 5k miles on the clock so it will get more economical in time, I have noticed a difference though. With morrisons fuel I was getting 450 miles with mixed driving but now with this new shell stuff i'm getting 475 - 500 miles. Thumbs Up LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

I used to use Shell fuel as cheapest near me but have started to use other fuel now they only do Fuel saver fuel.

I have tried Fuel save in FL2 Auto, Mondeo Auto Deisel and also a pug 206 U/L . All 3 produce worse MPG than the original Shell fuel. The FL2 gets 25mpg on FS compared to 28 on normal shell ASDA fuel gives 30. Mondeo gets 35 on FS 40 on normal. Pug 38 on FS 42 on normal. The figures are constant and are even afetr 5 or more fill ups with the FS fuel.

I thought the cheap french gazole was seriously affecting my mpg, only averaged 24mpg over a 3000 mile trip, and then I looked in the mirror and saw the caravan on the back Whistle

I get better mpg on the foreign stuff. I think it has a higher cetane rating (unless you buy the truck diesel, which is cheaper). In my TD5 I definitely got better consumption with BP Ultimate and with bio-diesel, but no difference with V-Power. Haven't really experimented on the TD4 yet, although I suspect bio-d is a bad idea on this engine so won't be trying it. On a decent run I get nearly 600 miles to a tank anyway... Whistle

Not a very helpful post, I'll admit, but as far as Bio-Diesel goes, the new freely engine is saying it can handle a greater percentage of BD per tank than the TD4. I havent got the figures to hand, hence the not very helpful comment, but they are around here. We Don't Care About Pot Holes !!

Well i have finally used a full tank of fuel saver

My previous trip was 21.95mpg and i got 293miles per tank (MPT)before i put in 60.68L

With my fuel saver tank i got 23.37mpg, 346MPT and added 67.30L Shocked

My MPT were a little higher, as was my MPG was also higher too, but this tanks of fuel did take me on a 70-80mph run down the motorway for an hour each way, which i normally don't get to do, living and working locally

To make matters worse i picked up the VPower Diesel pump instead of the fuel saver pump Crying or Very sad £1.259 a litre instead of £1.189 Confused Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Yesterday I refueled her ladyship's FL2 (in nearly 12mths she's only refueled once Censored) and here are the stats:
Driven 864kms = 536.55mls (1km=0.621mls)
Tanked 62ltrs Coop Diesel (it's from Libyan Oil): 62ltrs = 13.58gals (4.546lts=1 imperial gallon)

Fuel Economy:
Metric: 13.94kms per 1ltr
Imperial: 39.51mls per gallon.

Cost:
(FX rate available on my screen now: CHF1 = 0.6586GBP)
1ltr/CHF1.730 x 62ltrs = CHF107.25 Pump price paid
CHF107.25 = GBP70.68 / 62ltrs (13.58gals) = GBP5.20 per gallon.

Footnote:
Before refueling the computer read 117kms fuel range left; i.e: 72.65mls, giving a theoretical tank range of 981kms/609.2mls.
