Gradient Release Control

Hi

Just thought I'd let you all know, I have now found out that the Gradient Release Control doesn't work in my FL2, I had lots of time to test it in the Lake District this week, and couldn't get it to start working with any combination of hill descent/Terrain Response or steepness of hills. Just booked in for Land Rover to have a look at it.

It would have been helpful with the number of hills. Now that I'm back in the Fens, it isn't quite so much of a problem.

This is one feature I've never been convinced about. Even on some of the extreeeeme inclines we found at Tong yesterday I'm not convinced it worked... Interested to see what you find ....

I had it working a lot at Tong quite usefull as well.

1st with hill decent on

ease over the edge and stop when you take your feet off the brake releases over 3 seconds,

it has to be a steep hill though to feel it working and you need to be stationary with feet on the brakes before it works.

where in the lakes did you try as i can't think of anywhere steep enough to get to workins properly (legal anyway)

I had mine on down the tall drop and Rebacca said don't brake on the way down.........I didn't I replied, ...you must have cause your rear wheels were locked all the way down!!! For sure my feet were nowhere near the pedals and the handbrake wasn't on either Question Question I could feel the abs cutting in and out on the front.

I used it on my LRE half day, and it definately worked - haven't tried it on my own FL2 though. What degree of gradient would I need to test it ?

I'm also not sure if GRC is working as per the hand book. Spoke to my dealer two weeks ago when it was in getting ECU updates (March '07 HSE). He said that it does work as they haved tried it on the dealer training days. Though the way he discribed it did not make sense. Have sent him an email to say him method did not work - still waiting on a reply. Had a play while on summer holiday in South Wales. It definately does not hold the hill for 3sec. Mine rolled back down the hill and tried to slow its self down on the HDC control Shocked . If I hear from the dealer I will tell you all!

I have had the same experience as you mork in the handbook it states stop on a slope use footbrake with HDC on release footbrake GRC will engage ?
I would have thought "slope" means most reasonably steep hills not a virtual cliff ! Confused ... have plenty of hills round here tried it several times ....no success ..look forward to you getting a reply from the dealer.

On the LRE day, it was a fairly stepp hill, but he said it would work on anything over 20 degress.

We were going up hill, stopped half way. without using the hadbrake, took foot off brakes, and moved to acelerator (automatic) then you could hear the brakes disengaging, and we drove on (I was told about 4 seconds if going up hill, and continuing, only 1 second if going down hill)

I tried in on multiple 25% hills, and on the Hard Knot Pass as well (would be really helpful there) and nothing, not a sausage.

Not sure where to test it after it's been fixed though, a speed bump is a big hill roung here.

Will the dealer have a ramp or something, sometimes they have the fl2 on a ramp or built up display area, as a sales ploy on the forecourt.

Or something as they will need to test the system to find out if it is working

In the car went today, but the dealer couldn't fix the gradient release, in fact they didn't know what gradient release was, and hadn't heard of it, just my luck. When I explained it, he said they'd speak to LR about it, and how to test it, and get back to me. He also mentioned about the difficulty testing it when there aren't any hills round here, especially not any 1 in 5s.

Any, one of their engineers is going to a G4 event at one of the experience centres tomorrow, so will question the people there, and then hopefully they'll be able to fix it for me.

Nice to know your dealership is fully up to spec on all the FL2`s systems Shocked Laughing have given up trying to get GRC working on mine have plenty of hills to try it out on but after the 15th attempt trying different terrain settings and other variations ...realised better to wait until it next goes in to the dealership and get them to test it ...but now might give them a ring to make sure they`ve heard of it !

My dealer in Bedford (marshall's) has a small demo section with a steep incline, plus a 40degree side slope (left to right) and a rock section, could always test the HDC on the sttep incline if your dealer has one??

GRC does work if you know how to use it

Well it worked brilliantly on my LRE session today! Makes hill starts on very silly steep hills a whole lot easier than it was in the D3 I tried. Very Happy

It seems to be important that the hill is actually steep enough (over 20deg), and helps if you brake hard with the footbrake as you stop, before pulling away again. The car's systems also need to know you're off-road (terrain respense setting as non-road, or with road setting and using command shift 1st gear)!!
Life is not a dress rehearsal!
