I have my car in the dealers for further investigation in a noise I noticed after it was serviced

To me it sounded like a wind noise or tyre noise, but I had my tyres changed due to a puncture and also took my roof crossbars off (i have them crossbars on all the time)

I had the dealer do a test drive with me last week and the tech though a wheel bearing was starting to do a wobbly

Further investigation today they said it was a power transfer switch (i think she said switch) and said it was a strange thing to go, but not totally unheard of Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Apparently it's the switch or something that converts 2WD TO 4WD and is making a noise when it's doing so Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Apparently this switch can be damaged by idiotic driving into kerbs  At work

I got my car back from the dealers an it now is all fixed, the whirring noise I was hearing is no longer and also another noise which i heard when steadily accellerating at about 2000rpm, ( a sound like 2 pieces of metal been rubbed together in a circle) is no longer either. I also thought it was a valve to do with the turbo or something, well anyway thats gone also

I also thought my mpg wowes had gone today as i did the same drive i did the other day at 27.mpg but this time i got 41mpg but still dropped down to about 28mpg on the return

Do you know exactly what the dealer did to fix this noise? Did they have to replace parts, adjust tolerances, adjust torque settings etc.?

They originally thought wheel bearing but on the ramp it was the PTS thing

They replaced it, part alone was £650 before discount she said

She says it something that twisted 90 degree to make it go from 2wd to 4x4,

But when I did the test drive right at the start the tech guy he heard the whirring noise, then he heard this other noise an I asked him what it was, his response was along the lines of some make it and other don't, we looked into it when the FL2 was first release etc

This sounds to me like a classic haldex issue.

I don't really understand what a power transfer switch is, as when 4wd is needed it engages the haldex (haldex is v.similar to an electronically operated clutch).

I am not too sure about the names, but it was said to be a presure switch that makes the car transfer the power to the 4 wheels when needed, they now think the new noise is related to the rear diff

LRA was happy to follow me to the dealers in Leeds this morning and Enterprize have provided a FL2 HSE in black, with dirty cream leather interior to use for a few days

Not sure what the time scale is going to be on getting the car back yet either Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Can't think you've done many miles; isn't yours 2010my?
Hope you get it fixed soon, but things like this are a bit worrying. Let's hope it's a 'one off'. I hope it's not Haldex problems, a b y expensive part!!
