England 2013 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto Santorini Black

I've just re-activated the seat belt warning chime. I am happy with a reminder to put on my seat belt.
It,s my first message. What a great forum. Very Happy 2013 hse auto, black, almond leather, exnon lights, factory privacy glass, exhaust finisher, rear boot spoiler, mud flaps. Body door side moulding and steps.

First thing I turned off. The chime got on my tit's after my Mrs insisted on taking off her seatbelt 100yds from work and again when she gets in, she takes another 100yds before she's settled and puts it on.

Works a treat though, I love these little tips. Smile

I'm here you save your life! I'm superman!
There is no need for a moral speech, we all know why we have seatbelts!
I use it every day. I just want to be able to move my car without that annoying beeeeeep!
We have a red warninglight in the dash. That's enough for me. If you have to have a fu..ing siren going of to remind you to put your belt on than that's up to you. Smile

Where do we draw the line with letting people do what they want? Rape or Murder perhaps?

I don't know about your country but in the UK it is against the law to drive (or be a passenger) in a moving vehicle without wearing a seat belt. (Certain circumstances Excepted, NOT including 'the wife likes to shuffle about a bit after setting off')

So to drive from my house front to the garage, or from house to my tractor shed/air compressor I have to belt up or live with the bong bong.
Or even during my 3/4 mile off road trip to the pub? What about on the way back when I'm over the limit and not wearing a belt/shoes /trousers/socks/ (delete as appropriate).
Wearing a belt is difficult in such circumstances as it takes ages to buckle up when ratted Laughing At work
At home

Choice is good, where it doesn't directly effect others why not?

Try driving in a limestone quarry with a 5mph speed limit every day - can be easily a mile accross
What good is a seatbelt at that speed?
Overalls covered in lime dust - put your belt on every journey and within a few days the belts will be irrevesably white, within a few months they will be physically ruined - but you won't find out until you actually need them - too late.
Lime comes off the leather upholstry easy - difficult to get it out of fabric without lots of water. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her

I did say except certain circumstances,
1 of them obviously is CG Censored out of his face driving across his field (why doesn't he use his old pick up and not his missus's car)
And 1 of them so not to get lime stone on your seat belt on a private quarry (do you take the overall off at the gate before joining the public highway?). I would prefer to be belted in If an out of control 45 tonne tipper decided to shunt me even at 5mph

Personally I think you crazy guys just wanna be rebels really and can't be stupid enough to ignore the clear safety message and advertising campaigns regarding the safety of yourselves and your passengers, But has Mr pink said the choice is ultimately yours.

The real issue here is civil liberties to what extent are other people (MPs) allowed to make decisions on your behalf.

Yes the law states that you MUST wear a seatbelt on a public road, however there are circumstances where you may wish to drive on private land and not wear a seatbelt all perfectly legal.

Also there are speed limits in force on all roads in the UK should we put a GPS linked speed limiter on all cars to stop people speeding? At what point does the state allow the individual to make up their own minds.

For the record not wearing a seatbelt puts noone in danger other than the person not wearing the seat belt, in fact people not wearing seatbelts tend to drive slightly slower! The reason the government has made it illegal is purely economic making people wear seatbelts has reduced cost to the NHS and provided an income stream of fines for not wearing a seatbelt. Fitting a device to restrict speed would deny the government of a substancial income stream from Gatsos and the like.

The final question is do we really need a loud pinging to tell us we are not wearing a seatbelt or does a red indicator icon on the middle of the dash surfice?

What about unrestrained rear seat passengers that may be flung forward into the person sitting directly in front of them?

And are you really suggesting that the government generates more profit (not revenue and not to mention the cost of clogging up the court system) from speeding fines than crashes caused by speeding motorists cost the public purse? (emergency services, Council highways dept & The NHS Etc.)

Always wash the car before leaving site for two reasons - so the lights are effective, and it keeps the dust down for the nieghbours. Hate wearing overalls and safety boots so yes. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her

That's the dumbest comment I've heard! We are talking about wearing a seat belt not raping og killing people.......
In the end it's up to me if I want to be able to role my car from my front door to my garage without that annoying beeeeep! When I hit the public roads I always wear them.
I just don't get why you get so Censored about people removing a damn annoying sound from their car!? FL2, TD4 HSE
