It'll be embarassing for the 2WD FL2 owners, when it snows, as they will have no better (possibly worse) traction than your average hatchback Shocked Imagine the embarassment of getting stuck on 5mm of snow Whistle Gone - TD4 XS Auto, Sumatra Black, Mud flaps and side strips, clear indicators, private plate, privacy glass

2wd with proper winter tyres on the front , would do fine on snowy tarmac, possibly better than 4x4 on normal tyres.
BUT it would be no good at getting me across the fields to the pub Evil or Very Mad At work

I have been and got the full official spec lists and colour flyer from LR today.

HSE owners with TD4 will lose the colour coded body trim and this is reserved for HSE SD4 owners. New windsor leather trim optional on HSE models at £1200! It is a softer rouged leather.

I'll put up the specs tomorrow.

Did you see the 2 little exhausts on it, looked rubbish.

Wonder why they took off the silver trims?

2wd FL will reduce the residual values on our cars.

It means that the entry level price for FL ownership drops - so if a buyer just aspires to the badge/image - they would rather buy a newer 2wd than our older 4wd. Then in order to shift our used 4wd - we will have to drop prices closer to the 2wd.

Sad. Crying or Very sad

Although I understand the reasons (and possibly necessity) of moving towards 2wd on the FL and LRX - it does dilute the brand and they need to be careful they don't dilute it to the point where they are no better than any other 2wd pseudo off-roader out there.

A recent example of this is Subaru moving away from their rally/performance/hot hatch 4wd image and more towards family cars. Mitsubishi has now moved much further ahead in the rally/performance image stakes with the evo to the point where the Impreza is barely considered by the enthusiast. And nobody is buying vanilla family imprezas because they are just not good enough to compete. So they have lost all round.

Hi i dont like the idea of a 2WD LandRover either, but LandRover have to change and Adapt to the market to grow and survive or they will go bust, and no one wants that. Let all the muppets buy the 2WD models for the image which will make more money for LandRover, so they will be able to make better 4WD models. Thumbs Up

I think things like this always happen, and have always happened at LR as well.

Think about when the Range Rover was released, all the "proper" LR drivers, wouldn't be seen dead in something with carpet and working heaters, forget it. It'll ruin the brand.

Then the Freelander came out, a LR without low range, and low ground clearance, who'd buy that, wrong choice by LR. Wasn't this the best selling compact 4x4 for many many years.

Then the Disco3 came out, a LR without beam axles, couldn't possibly work offroad, it'll be like a freelander (which is brilliant at the right type of offroad, I know) rubbish, won't work properly. Am I not right in thinking that it wins loads of awards, and is one of the best 4x4xfar.

I thought 2wd was a really bad idea, but if it sells well, gets younger people into the brand (which the original FL did is massive amounts) it will help overall sales, and boost the perception of the brand with "greener" people, its a good idea.

Also, with regards to residuals, have the black and white editions affected the residuals? I don't think they have. It is a fine line between having too many cars, and cheaper models, which lower prices, which increases demand, which increase prices, and so on... (Just look at the D3, and price rises and drops).

Rich
