Having owned an FL1, I love the new more powerful engine. Goodbye sluggish pickup.

If you want pace you are probably better looking at a 330 D Touring? For me the engine is noisy on tick over, but on the road, hooked up to the auto it is nce and quiet and has enough poke for what it is.

You mention the auto Triple7. I had an auto XS as a courtesy car when my FL1 was in for repair and I remember thinking how I would buy one. When I did get an FL2 though, I decided on the manual due to the lower running costs and the fact that the stop/start made it 2 tax bands lower. When my FL2 had a quick repair recently I had an auto and I am so pleased I bought a manual. I can see the advantages of an auto but when utilising kick down I found it too jerky and it revs too much before changing gear. Just my opinion but I love my manual and thanks to the torque, I dont find myself changing down very often in slowish traffic on motorways etc cos the turbo picks things up again nicely. Big praise for the engine. LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

Pulls ok etc but hate that ugly sound of a diesel - miss the sound of a throaty petrol V6. Fuel consumption probably wouldn't be much worse either but would at least have a nice grin when accelerating rather than the impression of being in a van. (Past) Freelander 2 HSE 2010 MY In Rimini Red.

fast enough for me, esp as young Finn is usually in the back, although on country roads more power can mean safer overtaking..if used correctly At work

I entirely agree. Recently back from a 4,005kms zig zag road trip to Spain from CH. Travelled through a desert and many very high mountain passes on and off road. Temps from 6°C to 42°C. Sea level to 3,642mtrs and no discernible difference in that very able 152PS 2.2TD4-e. And the whole family cool and comfortable in all those temps thanks to its excellent A/C unit. If I wish to travel faster and have more "thrills" I get a fast Italian motorbike or a Brit GT out of the garage - but - the former has no A/C and the latter no rear seating capacity - both have no off road survivability and are very significantly less fuel efficient than the FL2. However, after the Spanish trip the storm clouds have gathered. Her ladyship (only 9mths of FL2 ownership) wants more load capacity (hope she's not thinking of increasing the head count at my age!) keeps referring to the Discovery, and young daughter wants an RRS as it looks nicer than mum's D4 option. And, I know dad will end up paying for it - so I am now formulating my pension portfolio defense strategy. |
