Having owned an FL1, I love the new more powerful engine. Goodbye sluggish pickup.

I was also thinking how fast a normal saloon would be with the engine. 160bhp and 295lb ft torque is good. The only thing slowing the FL2 down are the weight and poor aerodynamic properties. (Relatively speaking).

I know the BMW X3 range offers a much more powerful diesel but who cares when the engine is attached to an ugly heap.

I really rate the engine and think it is well suited for a good blend of performance and economy.

If you want pace you are probably better looking at a 330 D Touring? For me the engine is noisy on tick over, but on the road, hooked up to the auto it is nce and quiet and has enough poke for what it is.

You mention the auto Triple7. I had an auto XS as a courtesy car when my FL1 was in for repair and I remember thinking how I would buy one. When I did get an FL2 though, I decided on the manual due to the lower running costs and the fact that the stop/start made it 2 tax bands lower. When my FL2 had a quick repair recently I had an auto and I am so pleased I bought a manual. I can see the advantages of an auto but when utilising kick down I found it too jerky and it revs too much before changing gear. Just my opinion but I love my manual and thanks to the torque, I dont find myself changing down very often in slowish traffic on motorways etc cos the turbo picks things up again nicely. I think with any car you have the longer you have it the more power you would like it to have.
I came over from a new series 3 BMW heaps of power but after owning it for a year i felt like it needed more
These FL2 cars are not bad at all appart from a few issues i have with the dealers, but then there are not too many out there that have not had any problems. You either love them or hate them.
For me its gotta be a love thing, on the whole a very nice motor.

You can't have power and fuel ecomony.
I'm quite happy with 160 bhp in FL2 giving 40 ish mpg (man box).

I wasn't expecting blistering acceleration and wouldn't have bought one if that's what i wanted.

Horses for courses; i can have the last laugh over fast cars in the snow!!!

more power please - 190 bhp as a minimum on both transmissions

Pulls ok etc but hate that ugly sound of a diesel - miss the sound of a throaty petrol V6. Fuel consumption probably wouldn't be much worse either but would at least have a nice grin when accelerating rather than the impression of being in a van. (Past) Freelander 2 HSE 2010 MY In Rimini Red.

the FL2 has plenty power to do what it is built for.

if you feel you need more power then you should not have bought one and need to look elsewhere for more power, perhaps a sporty saloon ??

there is nothing more absurd than some idiot trying to drive a heavy 4x4 too fast, they are simply not designed for speed.

fast enough for me, esp as young Finn is usually in the back, although on country roads more power can mean safer overtaking..if used correctly At work
