These mis-matching spares worry me......I mentioned this to my dealer as it had been on threads before. He said 'all tyres should match, if they dont the dealer has been swapping full sized alloys around' It was the first thing I did when I opened the boot before signing the receipt form...checked all five tyres were the same. I would suggest if you have mismatching tyres you ask the dealer to get you a spare to match the four you have on the road. Unless you have Michelin, in which case and 'in my opinion' you ask for them ALL to be changed!!! |

Showing your age there pmcg, guess I'll have to come clean too ... mid 70's, Austin A35 & A40 tyre of choice was 5.20 X 13 Colway remoulds, level of grip - poor; handling terrific (in a sideways sort of way) !! |

Well I started off with 5 Michelin Latitudes 235/65/17. After just 3000 miles got a screw in one right on the offside edge so that was written off. Phoned round and no one could supply a Michelin, so I now have a Goodyear Wrangler in the spare. Considerably cheaper than I think Michelins would have been, so any more punctures will mean more Goodyears I expect.

You got me worried there for a moment with all that talk about the spare being a different tyre make to the other 4 tyres. It never occurred to me to check that. However, I've just checked mine and thankfully my dealer did not muck about with swapping alloy spares. All five of my tyres are Continentals. Phew! |

On a similar note, my steel full size spare (Conti) says its not to be used over 50mph. It's not a space saver so why the low limit? |

something to do with the bolts used for alloys and steel being different (or so I seem to recall from a previous thread) |
