Well said! The gun wasn't the killer, The MAN was.

Yes, but a man with a knife doesn't have to potential for mayhem that one with a gun has

We could go on and on....
You can make a bomb out of household chemicals and the like, that has the potential to kill hundreds, we can't ban fertiliser, bleach and nails because they have the potential to cause mayhem.

What about a MAN flying a plane (or two) into a tall building(s) and killing thousands-there hasn't been a call to ban areoplanes-(all though we now have to take our shoes off at the xray machine and put your aftershave in a see through bag Confused )

Is it not the fact and it has been found to be the case that there is no defence, nor will there ever be a defence against acts of terrorism.

What happened in Cumbria could very easily be described as such. The sad and painful fact is that if someone decides for whatever reason that they are going to make a point, and in that people are going to suffer, there is nothing that anyone can do about it. Hi Darling, I'll be home in 10 mins. If I'm not back, please read this message again...

Would agree, whislt we can put into place gun legislation, and remember ours is the toughest in the world, you cannot stop a lunatic.
Since dunblane how many of these incidents have there been none compare that with America where gun crime is more prolific probably about one a year. Simon

Guns don't kill people, People kill People.

More people are killed by vehicles every year by idiots behind the wheel. Banning firearms would be impracticable as many people need firearms for everyday work. There are plenty illegal F/A out there in the hands of criminals, we should be worried about these. Unfortunatly we cannot do anything about the unknowm person suffering mental illness until its too late. It would have been quit possible for the same number of people to be murdered by use of a kitchen knife!

The reality is that a gun offers more potential for multiple murder than any other weapon, apart from a bomb which requires specialist knowledge to build.

That said our gun laws are amongst the most stringent in the world and that changing them would have little effect apart from inconveniencing legitimate users. The only area that might need tightening might be the periodic evaluation of existing licence holders to ensure that the granting of a licence is still appropriate.

I also think that the outright banning of handguns was a knee jerk step too far and that for legitimate sportsmen as long as stringent conditions are met they should be allowed to participate in their sport.

Marky
I take your point but this for the family involved is one horrendous mess. There are twin brothers involved one murdered by the other. How would you feel about your cousins if your father had been murdered by your uncle. And then there is their mother.

Even if the story is sold I cannot see how this family can heal their differences in the glare of media attention. Simon
