Brake pads warning light?

Does anyone know if a warning light comes on to say that the brake pads are worn down to replacement level? Mines a FL2 2007 STD.

Had a service at 70k and the dealer said that I will probabaly need pads on the next service. Just had my "next service at 110k. Dealer said that all pads needed replacing. Post service, took it out and had a brake fluid leak on rear wheel. Dearler said to retun it immediately and diagnosed the problem as "a strained calipers" due to excessive wear on the disc as a result of over worn down brake pads.

How did they get so bad from "likely" to need replacing on a next service to needing them all replaced and damage to the discs to boot.

Is there a warning light that should come on to indicated brake pad wear?

Thanks if you have some experince to share on this

Hi inernest, as far as i can tell there is no warning lights that will come on as brake linnings wear down.
In order for that to work the brake pads would have a wire leading away from the brake pad.in the brake pad its self would be a soft copper rod moulded inside it set at a certan depth so as pads wear down this would come in to contact with the disc thus making a connection which in turn will bring on a warning light on the dash board.
I have repaced many of these types of pads many on bmw cars etc.
the best thing to do would be to either take the car to a garage were they should give you a free check or you could take a wheel off, turn the streering wheel on a full lock were you can actual see the thickness left on the pads Thumbs Up

I think you have done well to get 110,000k or 67900 miles out of a set of pads and disc's Bow down Bow down
But I do understand where your coming from.

I replaced the brake pads around 37,000 miles on my 08' American LR2 se and i can tell you for sure that there is no warning light that comes on as superspark said there would need be some sort wire or electronics connecting to the pads and there is nothing. the land rovers use a much softer than standard pad and disc and once the disc gets close to needing replacing it starts to wear almost exponential, at least in my experience, and when my stealer told me they would last to my next service they needed replacing the next week (I was lucky i got the parts in time before major brake failure). hope that helps.

I had the stealers telling me that my pads needed replacing when they had it for a service, what they really meant was that the pads would need replacing before the NEXT service, a long way away.

Whwn I looked the pads were barely half worn anyway.
Since then I have always checked them at intervals and before services.

Freelander pads are really easy to change, all round took about half an hour, you only need a 7mm Allen key to remove the calipers to get at them.

The last pads were about£80 for a complete set from Aker and Battle in Skipton (near Tesco).
Same pads used on various years of Galaxy and other Fords, and some volvos. Thumbs Up
