TRADE PRICES-REAL OR A CON?

Anyone out there have a CAP or Glasse's guide? I have just been told by a dealer that my 57 regd (December 20th) 2007 TD4 SE auto,25000m.HSE alloys is worth £16500 according to the CAP guide.Since I have been offered £18250 cash by a Land Rover dealer to buy my car in for stock I find this hard to believe.Any dealers out there prepared to tell me the values in the guides this month? Stornaway grey SE auto with 18" alloys

Isn't that something to do with main dealers and the cars having a higher resale value. My buddy is the Sales manager of an Fiat / Alfa dealership. When I was selling my Forester I got a CAP valuation for my car and it was £14600.00. The Subaru dealer offered me £ 17000.00. I think that main dealers are able to offer more as they have a greater resale value. Hi Darling, I'll be home in 10 mins. If I'm not back, please read this message again...

I didn't think the £18250 offer seemed too bad, for a dealer, until I just had a quick look at the approved used. Wow! they are holding their price right now aren't they! So then I looked at what they selling mine for just out of interest - XS Auto Stornaway - and some of the nearly year old approved used are pennies, literally pennies, cheaper than I paid brand new 3 ish weeks ago. Used prices certainly are buoyant...

The dealer who offered £18250 has for sale the very same car as mine advertised for £20995 and it has more miles and 17" wheels. Stornaway grey SE auto with 18" alloys

the dealer has overheads too though

approved used check, approved used warranty, any service/MOT to be paid for

Which all adds up to about a £1K

and then your looking at profit margin too Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

According to this months Glass's Guide it has a trade price of £17325 with 36k on the clock.

Obviously part ex price is dependent on a number of factors, but it is what it is, a guide. The dealer will pay what he wants for the car depending on if it is right for him.

I bought my 2007 XS manual with book miles on for less than glass's guide trade price and that was from a non francised dealer Gone S383 ABA Freelander 2.0 XEDI Rioja Red

My car has just had 4 new tyres, service 3 months ago and still under warranty until december 20th.He would just valet the car and sell it.Then he will do the same with a part exchange and probably make £5000 on the deals.Thats why they have those fantastic showrooms. Stornaway grey SE auto with 18" alloys

Oh dunno,

At the dealership i work at, we would still service the car even though it had only been recently done. We have to do this to keep our manufacturers standards.

Again, even though it has some warranty on it, I am sure that LR dealers have to pay to give the vehicle a full 1 year Land Rover warranty.

You keep logging on here and saying how hard done by you are by selling the car to a dealer and what you are been offered, have you tried to sell it private for what you are wanting and not what a dealer is wanting to pay for it.?

A dealer does have overheads, such as show rooms, that's a requirement normally of been a LR franchise, they'll still needs to do inspections to check the vehicle road worthiness, I'm not sure but would they still get a full years warranty, normal until December then approved used till what ever time next year, At a cost to a dealer.

The purchasers might also want to have certain marks or scuffs sorted that you might be happy with, but buying a car might not be another expense to the dealer

You might lose even more come december as you wont have any warranty left so a private buyer may prefer to go to the dealer and and get an approved one, with comeback to the dealer if things aint right Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Just read a couple of older posts.

You have only had the care about 3 months or so?????

Why are you trying to get prices on it, have you got your eye on something else? Gone S383 ABA Freelander 2.0 XEDI Rioja Red

As with most things, it's worth what somebody wants to pay for it, The dealer is offering such a price because he knows it will sell at a profit and he has limited stock of used AND new cars, If he had 30 used vehicles sat on his forecourt he would be offering below cap/Glass's price.
A guide price is just that-A GUIDE.
Market conditions/Supply and demand rears its head again Thumbs Up

In my opinion.
Less informed car buyers (i.e. non-forum members) will trust the dealer prices are the going rate, people buying private are more likely to price check Via the web/autotrader/parkers etc. because they don't trust the man on the street, But think dealers are honest and trust worthy Rolling with laughter

Approved Used=bought by a dealer and marked up at top whack.
How many threads are there on this site about people having problems with approved vehicles?

Dear Bone, I have Had the car from new ! Just making the point that some dealers offer nearly £2000 less than others and tell you that the price is correct. How many people take the first offer from the dealer trusting them to give the correct price. Stornaway grey SE auto with 18" alloys
