Little question about HDC ?

Just a quicky really guys. I used hill descent today and not sure if its working ? On my old FL1 you could here the abs (grinding sound) cutting in and out but on the FL2 it appears to be silent - unless its not working ? Would somebody please clarify weather it is silent or not ? I do get a 'hdc fault warning' occasionally on the dash on startup on cold mornings which im not too bothered about just more concerned if its working or not.
Cheers people. Have a good evening. Thumbs Up 2008 Td4 Freelander2 GS - santorini black.

Yes, you can 'hear' and 'feel' it applying the brakes...maybe you weren't travelling fast enough? I think I read that you can control the speed of descent too, with the cruise control controls Phil

Thanks phil. I would say mines stopped working with this fault warning. Rolling Eyes 2008 Td4 Freelander2 GS - santorini black.

you have to be fully off the brakes for it to be working too

try coasting in first down a hill and switch it on, make sure nothing is behind you and you should feel a sudden decrease in speed

pressing the + or - button for the cruise control will change speed on the HDC Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Yep I was off brakes, I accelerated then eased off to try and get it to free wheel down a track today hoping to hear the abs kicking in like how it use to in my old fl but to be honest it didnt feel much different whether it was on or off ?? definately there was zero noise when in use but Ive never had it working on this motor so I dont know if thats right or not. Confused
I didnt know about the cruise control bit - never had that in the old fl though. All knowledge this place. Thumbs Up
Its not really something I use so im not overly bothered, just its under warranty so I might get it looked at when its next in. Thumbs Up 2008 Td4 Freelander2 GS - santorini black.

You should be travelling under 80 km/h for it to kick in. So try it at a steep hill with a slow speed. You should also see the green light on the dash if it's working. 2010 Freelander 2 Select TD4 auto....gone

Has to be in 1st gear too (or 2nd as well?)...not sure if a decline is required, or whether it will still work on flat road. Phil

it needs to be a really steep incline for it to kick in, as engine braking alone will hold the car back on a normal slope.

I used to be able to get my Disco 2 hdc to kick in on a particular slope, ( obviously a much heavier vehicle ) but the FL2 does not, but it does work ok on a steeper slope.

I was out laning last Sunday, certainly heard it locking/skidding on wheels as necessary. Sounds quite disconcerting if you are not ready for it, but unmissable. I was on about a 25-30 degree slope, chalk / gravel mix. 1st gear only.

Wouldn't bother to try it unless you are on a reasonably iffy surface, or you are tackling something really steep. We Don't Care About Pot Holes !!
