squeaky caliper/wheel

I know it's prob the weather WITH SALT ETC but my FL2 has developed a rather annoying squeak from the front caliper area.

Can this be easily cleaned/sorted or is it a garage job? Or is it likely to 'sort itself out'?

Or worse still is it an indication the pads are wearing? Shocked

Mine has some squieak from rear pads with 5000 km's on so it's not much about the wear I guess.

It should be dirt etc. related, and should go away IMO. 2010 Freelander 2 Select TD4 auto....gone

Snappa,

I had a similar problem with my rear wheels (on the old car). Turned out that the brake material was starting to curl up at the edges and was peeling away from the backing plate and touching the disc causing them to squeal.

Got the pads replaced @ kwikfit in Dyce for £80 all in. ______________________

I think this must be something to do with Land Rover's, as ours does the same, and the Disco before now did the same too. Mine: 2012 Golf GTI Edition 35

What both wheels? That's not bad.

Did they get the pads or did you supply your own?

If they supplied did you specify you wanted LR pads?

I must admit having found kwik fit to be at best unpredictable the lads at dyce seem pretty good.

Went to kwik fit yesterday. The guy looked at it (they were very busy) and I got a call an hour or so later asking me to come in.

When I went in the guy said I would 'probably' need new discs and pads ALL ROUND and that they couldnt guarantee this would cure the squeal ??!? Shocked Judging by the finger marks on the dirty alloys they hadnt even taken the wheels off.
When I said I would leave it then the guy offered to quote me for the discs and pads.

Took it to Laws tyres today, the guy offered to strip the calipers down and clean etc and see if that cured it and if it didn't cure it and it needed pads, he would deduct the cost of the strip down from the pads bill.

Turned out to be the rear pads but as the fronts were pretty well worn too, I had them changed too. Picked em up from TnC and they fitted em for 35 quid an axle set, not too bad I thought.
