Possible Freelander Meet

Okay, the last one that was in the process of being organised unfortunately fell by the wayside or at the moment looks that way - you never know.

It doesn't mean that we couldn't plan something, even if it's just a days meet, but hopefully longer.

Venue, open to offers, maybe someone has some idea, could propose or organise it.

Date - as per previous, a weekend in May.

If we don't do it in the early summer, we will never do it, least ways, not this year.

Lets get a feel to those who would go and i am not into ones that promise and don't deliver, it wastes everyones time and effort.

Thanks, it's appreciated. Given a choice, Scotland, but anywhere really.

If it were the north of Scotland, I have contacts for some mild to serious off roading. That said some of the roads up here might as well be off road.

If we had a weekend away, the sands of Arisaig, the beach where Local Hero was filmed. Glen Nevis, where Brave Heart was filmed and I had lunch with Mel Gibson and about 50 others, Loch Sheil were Highlander was filmed. Kinlochleven, where Rob Roy was filmed. The list goes on. Maybe need a week.

Another option for a long weekend is getting across on the Ullapool to Stornoway ferry, now subsidised heavily and NOT expensive - 2.5 hour crossing and visiting the Isle of Lewis and the Isle of Harris. Maybe getting ahead of myself.

The majority view will prevail in anycase.

No problem. I've lived up here a long time. Give us a shout, I can tell you where to get the views or where to see wild Goats, Otters, Mink, Birds of Prey, Seals etc. etc. For those wanting a little trek into the hills, there is the Valley of the Roaring or the Gale equivilant . 500 Red Deer Stags and Hinds rutting in a remote cliff type rock Ampitheatre. I digress.

You got some cash to flash, I can get you red deer stalking. Typically, you don't get the meat, the estate does. You just get the head, complete with antlers and tusks, maybe the liver if you want it.

I have to say shooting your first stag is a magical moment, one you dont forget, then there is the ritual of blooding etc. Not for veggies or the faint hearted, but it's man reverting to the hunter gatherer instinct. I am going off topic again. Slap!

hopefully geography centrality won't be to only deciding factor as the Watford Gap Services doesnt really appeal. maybe people could put forward suggestions ?

Solihull may be closing sadly but I have heard that Gaydon is a good day out.

Happy to offer LPR as a meeting point as it has worked well in the past for RRS forum meets. I am away at the end of May, however if the date does fall when I'm away then I can leave it in the hands of Matthew to entertain you!

My suggestion would be meet at LPR, then a drive through the Cotswolds perhaps and end up back at Gaydon.

James Thumbs Up

Sounds encouraging. I can then mug James and pinch a new FL2!
