Thanks for all of your advice, the reason we went for negotiating the proper LR towbar and electrics from the dealer is so that if there any problems LR cannot say "it's down to the towbar electrics" leaving the poor old customer stuck between the towbar installers and LR. Funny thing is LR don't make ther own towbars, they all buy them from the main towbar makers (brink, Thule etc and stick there label on it. I am sure the wiring kits come from someone else as well. At least if it's got LR all over it and it's fitted by a dealer I should have some comeback if there are problems. Cynical?, perhaps but a wise man once told me cynasism is a state of mind brought on by experience. I believe it's Audi that will not honour the vehicle warranty unless the towbar is fitted by them. |

My 13 pin socket and towbar were fitted by the dealer and as far as I remember the wiring kit (the LR one) is different to the seperate 12N and 12S wiring kits.

So does your trailor have 13 pin now and you use the adaptor to link up to your cars 12n/12s or is it t'other way round Either way by removing the adaptor and wiring direct your not actually changing anything except removing 3 plug connections. |

Mcphersonstrut you can just buy a plug that fits direct into the 13 pin socket that has the 12N outlet without the length of cable. My Fl is a 13 pin and I have the adaptor socket for my trailer. It's much easier and safer than cutting wires and only costs about £10. Try this link http://www.caravanstuff4u.co.uk/product1381.html Ralph

Mcpfers, yes when I upgraded last year it as all new trailors of this kind have for about 3 maybe 4 years now it came with a 13 pin, but I was given the adapter by the dealer as part of the deal but it adds about 18 inches and the plug and socket is not something small. I still need 12n but as Ralph has said the adapter to go from 13 pin to 12n is just a plug in socket no length of cable etc. |

Changing to a 13 pin is dead easy, assuming a little electrical know how. Once you take of the two existing sockets then just fed both 7 core cables into the back of the 13 pin socket and wire up as appropriate. This may require the grommit on the back of the 13 pin socket to be enlarged, or stripping away more of the outer cable sheafs on the two 7 pin sockets and then re weather proffing with heat shrink tape.
