We have a 2007 (57) XS TD4, which has been with us for three months.

To my ears, the turbo seems to whistle a lot when the engine is cold, though it's far less pronounced when it's up to temperature.

Don't recall hearing the turbo at all on previous turbo diesels that I've run. They were a while ago though and didn't have a variable geometry/vane turbo.

Difficult to convey sounds on a web forum, but do others find that the turbo on their FL2 is quite vocal when cold. I do treat it gently when the engine is still cold, but even so, the whistle is there!

I did have a similar turbo noise on my disco td5, but my FL2 seems to be a lot quieter.

My turbo noise was diagnosed as faulty filter in power steering pump reservoir. it collapses and interupts the flow of fluid. Wind steering from lock to lock and see if the noise gets worse (engine running!).
