sounds like you have cracked it Thumbs Up
thats exactly what is happening so thanks for that, good news its not a fault then-just a bit of information.
it hasn't done it again but the car has done more extended runs without the need off screen blast and rear window heater at the start, since the "milder weather "has kicked in Exclamation
battery volts must be up Very Happy

Mine also does this.
I have only had the car 3 days... the SATNAV plays DVD's so My son was looking forward to watching one while we were camping... it only lasted about 10 mins before warning of low battery and a 3 min countdown to shutoff... poor lad was gutted. Sad
The battery must be fine as the car has only done 12k on a 2013 plate... plus we had just returned from a 100 mile trip on the road so after that there should be loads of charge in the battery.
Whats the point of being able to play a DVD for only 10 mins!!!

low battery warning

This post has been edited by the site administration team - merged into existing thread

Sat waiting for my daughter, ignition off, radio on.

Been sat about 10 mins when I notice low battery warning on the radio display so immediately fired up the engine which worked ok.

Is this an internal battery on the head unit or the main vehicle battery?

Phone battery is at 40% + but wasn't connected at the time anyway.

Alex - I have the 2010 alpi ne premium system so does that show vehicle battery info?

As I've said before, the workshop manual states:

"The audio head unit incorporates a power management function. Should the vehicle battery level drop below a predetermined level (about 12.3V) the unit will limit its functionality to avoid further battery discharge, displaying the message "Low Battery"".

A 5 or 6 year old car battery is skating on thin ice especially if one has cold winters. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

I had already got a feeling the battery might need replacing as sometimes when the auto box has been changing up/down the headlights have flickered and it's been a little sluggish firing up in the colder mornings.

I'll get a new battery chucked on when I get the chance and may ask them to put the extra earth strap on while they are there.

Just got my LR's "Original" seven year old battery tested, Was told that is still in good shape and didn't need replacing. That even after seven years of Canadian winters.

I have always replaced my battery at 4 years, it's not worth the time and resources. Number one problem for breakdowns is batteries.

Murphy's law is that you will be stuck at the worst possible time in the worst possible location & you will get a replacement battery that is not the best type!

The number of times I have jump started cars I can count on two hands & that is in my street. Started 2 cars in the last 12 months!

Second car was parked in an impossible place. I connected 2 sets of jumper leads end to end. The car started instantly & the guy was blown away, he could not believe that it started in 0.5 second!

I had a firmware update on my my13 dynamic, which updated the battery charging. I was consistently getting low battery warnings before the automatic shutdown kicked in. After the update low battery warnings disappeared, and gattery coltage increased from around 12.5V to a healthier 14. Fuji White MY13 SD4 Dynamic

.

What makes you say the battery must be fine? remember, just because a car is new, thats only registration and possibly some of the components. most of the parts have probably been on the shelf of LR or the supplier for months or more before being fitted, and then there's the chance of it being faulty from the supplier.

I would say if after 20 minutes with a dvd player plugged in (providing its a car dvd player and low power) you probably have a faulty battery, also 12k in 3 years is very low, which means its probably only ever been used for short journeys,..

Try less than 5k for a MY13 to date. Virtually all very short trips & only a handful of half decent trips. Not exactly ideal for a starter battery! Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!
