If you scavaged a set of dials from a written off MY2010, would the clock and instant mpg work on a pre-my2010?
Nope, the instrument pack is coded to the vehicle with a 'once only' write at production, replacement IPK's are 'blank' and are first coded to the vehicle then uploaded with the software for that MY, to upgrade to later MY's you'd need to upgrade other modules to broadcast the clock and mpg information to the IPK. If you tried to upload later software, the other modules would not recognise the version and throw all sorts of hissy fits

As per most instrument packs this is true but I have swapped many clusters in the past by copying the original data from the old and editing it into the new ie chassis numbers etc.

I assumed that it would take the information it required from the can and also assumed that this information was already there, what modules do you think would need mofification to talk to the cluster?

Still want to try on my own vehicle .

Copying old to new is not the issue, copying old to previously installed in another vehicle is the problem. the IPK holds the master copy of the distance travelled and the global clock along with the security descriptors individual to the vehicle, there is a backup copy held in the FL2 version of the BCM, the info held here cannot be used to overwrite existing info in the IPK, only a 'blank' IPK can be programmed to the vehicle

Hi guys,

I was playing with SDD replacing vbf files on to older files which was downloaded to my 2007 HSE LHD existing instrument cluster. But didn't put the right version incl time on the message centre. I'm sure if I get right version of the file to download, I could have time and other options.
