Hi lads,After reading through our friend LARs technical ability i wonder if he or anyone else can explain this one.
i have looked through, but can't find any posts on this so if it has appeared before, my appologies.
During the last cold spell, All that lovely snow my FL2 went great. One night though whilst waiting for my Daughter with the car OFF with just the Drivers vanity light ON and my I-Pod playing i noticed a message on the radio display. "low battery". before i could photograph it on my mobile the vanity light went out and the radio switched off leaving the car in complete darkness. Oh my "*&. i hope it starts - and it did with no trouble at all.
I was sort of hoping it would appear again but it has not. i guess because i was only doing short journeys the charge was low.
I cant find any info in the manuals, is this a controlled shutdown to conserve power ? everything came back on when the engine was started. How exactly does this work? and at what voltage?Four weeks on and no more messages.
Any ideas anybody.

Don't know the answer, but also happended to me twice. Once after installing the rear TV's and once when waiting in the car with the radio on for 10 minutes (engine off). Started no problems afterwards, but surely the battery wasn't that low.

Its happened to me also, only when listening to the radio with the engine off. Its as though there is a battery in the radio after about 15 mins its flat. When the radio goes off turn it back on again and its fine for another 15 mins. Could be some sort of timer to stop the radio being left on to flatten the main battery? p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior

I saw these words on my radio 2 months ago . The engine was off too. I thought that there would need to charge car's battery... and have made nothing up to now. But I don't think the radio has its akku

I guess its something like a scarecrow for Freelanders
It cant be possible to flatten the battery by playing the radio all night if you want (if that was possible) - The radio power consumption very little as it is in other vehicles. 2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.

Usually radios can be switched on with the ignition off for 20 mins.
They then go into battery saving mode effectively turning off.
It may be an incorrect message that is meant to read power saving mode.

Or there may be a monitoring threshold in the radio thats doing it. Don't put petrol in a diesel. They don't run well.

Thats a few good answers and theories that all make sense. If it comes back i'll take a picky, but a power save message gone wrong in translation - ENGLISH to english is favourite.
I'll ask next time i'm near the dealer.

The workshop manual states:

"The audio head unit incorporates a power management function. Should the vehicle battery level drop below a predetermined level (about 12.3V) the unit will limit its functionality to avoid further battery discharge, displaying the message "Low Battery"".

So in conclusion, with engine switched off, after a while (and, of course, temperature dependant), the voltage could drop below 12.3V, if audio and any other consummer is on. So the audio power management is kicking in and display that warning, taking proper actions.

But beware, this is a message displayed _only_ by the audio system, so if the audio is _off_ and you draw power from battery with other loads, you could discharge the battery _without_ any warning.
