United Kingdom 2008 Freelander 2 TD4 XS Manual Santorini Black
design by committee

From the thread regarding the possible Fl3. It seems you want a

bigger boot that is actually the same size
bigger engine that uses much less fuel
armrest/ front storage that isnt really there at all
Hi tech sat nav radio that is simpler.
some want air suspension, some dont so lets just put it on one wheel Thumbs Up
cheaper high quality fixture and fittings Confused

If the LR designers manage to tick all those boxes perhaps they can start working on a caravan that is big enough inside to be of some possible use Wink At work

Oh the conundrums of design, maybe it could be produced in unobtanium then everybody could have their wish. ALL I WANT IS A 3 DOOR HARDBACK MODEL AGAIN CLOSER TO LAND ROVER than RANGE ROVER BRAND VALUES! still pining for my 3dr, no removeable hardtop, no drop glass tailgate, no roof rack, no pockets everywhere to stow all that man kit

For me the bigger boot could be achieved by moving the rear seats forward as required..I rarely carry passengers in the rear seats but would like a bigger boot at times.

Air suspension sounds expensive and complicated when I'm more than happy with the FL2 suspension.

Engine is good but it would be a winner if they could drop the CO2

I think the only cubby hole is the glovebox..not handy for change at the dartford crossing...a few more cubby holes please..and if I had in built sat nav where would you put your sunglasses???

Do you mean folding the rear seats? That's what I do when I need more space. Tricky if you have valuables and have to leave the car, though.
Perhaps I should get a big metal box which I could tow along behind me?

No I meant actual being able to slide the seat position like you do with the front seats. I agree folding the seats doesn't aid security hence I'd like a bigger boot area which can be covered...just an extra few inches Shocked

Not the same.Ok a more efficient 6 cylinder engine can be fitted into a disco but up-sizing from 4 cylinders to six is unlikely to improve economy- At work

Thats the thing, people should look at a Freelander for what it is, and not adapt it for your own purpose. If you want a bigger car, then get a bigger car. If you want a sporty "add all the bits on Vitara" then get something else.

Sure, better fuel economy would be great (esp for the high fuel prices).

Not a six.

Higher output 4 same block with newer injectors and twin sequential turbos.. different management ...erm like it is in a Ford Wink .

They can stick with 4 cylinders, just make the car lighter. LR is going to diet their models in the coming years anyway so LR3 would be a good starting place.

I never did understand why they made the D3 with both a ladder chassis (a-la-defender) AND a monocoque body (a-la-modern car), it simply makes it very heavy and the D3 even had harmonic dampner weights fitted too....

Modern design and materials mean this shouldnt be nessecary and every KG helps. I appear to be addicted to Landrovers...

TD5 D-Lander hopefully finished soon!
FL2....this year with any luck!

Indeed - the car doesn't need to be bigger but more flexible inside..not a big issue but on the wish list

dont LR say they fit a single turbo for more torque. Although a twin turbo should be capable of producing low down torque At work
