Belgium 2009 Freelander 2 TD4_e XS Manual Santorini Black

I'm very happy with the car as it is.

My wish list is not that big:

- 5yr warranty would be nice.
- A descent up to date navigationsystem and car entertainment system with the latest technologies incorporated like usb integration, divx movie playback. For the navigation part, they would be wise to work together with specialised companies like Garmin or TomTom (the latter preferably) as they carry a lot of changeble features. I'd love to be warned when a "flitspaal" is near. For the entertainment part they should be able to provide what brands like Kenwood, Pioneer and alike offer in their midrange solutions.
- A retracteble devision between the backseat and the boot so you can keep full use of the larger boot with the backseats down and can seperate the boot from the passengers if need be.
- A bit of work on the interior trimmings to make it feel a bit more premium.

In other words, nothing major, so it should not have any impact on the price.

PS a "flitspaal" is those roadside cameras on poles they are putting everywhere these days, but I don't know the english word for it.

I dont even on a FL2 yet, but have had many landrovers and know the problems, im also looking to buy so here is my list!!!

Split rear tailgate.
Reliability - all landrovers suffer poor reliability
Warranty - back up the new reliability with better warranty
Offroad pack - forget air suspension but lockable diff+protection etc would be great.
Weight/MPG - lower the weight and improve the mpg a LOT.

Prices - they are already too high for what you get, base spec has nothing, so you're looking at a starting price of 25K ish + accessories....its too high, look at the competition to the FL2!

"Standard features" - as standard, puddle lights should be a high spec option, nor should iluminated heater controls, or map reading lights etc etc. Get into ANY modern car and these are normal features on the base model - LR really need to improve these things as if you can get them on a 7K city car tin box, i expect them on a 20-30K premium brand.

Accessory cost - once again they are obscene, do LR never learn???? I appear to be addicted to Landrovers...

TD5 D-Lander hopefully finished soon!
FL2....this year with any luck!

Well i think it would have to be
1,bigger boot
2,more mpg, lets say an extra gear for motorway driving
3,rear heated seats, keep all the family happy lol
4,A reversing camera which displays in the satnav screen
5,No air suspention, dont try and fix what aint broken.
6,center console but not that bad looking thing ive seen advertised somewhere
That will do for starters while i think of something else

Guys this is going well, please try to keep this thread on track - love Doc x

As Doc says probably better to keep this thread to the wants so it is easier for LR Maker etc to distille to the definitive list. Perhaps start another thread to debate the pros and cons of individual suggestions???????

Just a thought

With regards to extra boot length.......are you satisfied with how the FL2 looks? or are you willing to sacrifice elongating the FL2 for the extra room?

32000 iles and very happy. I have a very short list:

More ground clearance (the ONLY case for air suspension) or protectopn
Lower first gear for manual or low range
Agree it could use better boot lighting
Winter pack to become standard equipment (includes BiXenon lights)
Trip computer to show instantaneous MPG to aid economy driving
Less bulky door mirrors

Unlike others, I think Haldex is very clever and by saving rear drive when you don't need it, helps fuel econmy. They have moved on too.

I'd be dould be delighted to help at Gaydon Gone... 2013 XS TD4 Manual Firenze Red
Gone... 2008 (09MY) XS Td4 Manual Stornaway Grey
Prior... 2003 G4 Discovery 2, 1998 Disco 1 and 1997 Disco 1 Company car before that
Also gone in Nov'13, after 7.5 yrs, to new owners with time for more TLC - 1980 Series III 88

I think they could maybe do an XL version similar to the L versions of the German Saloons ? and keep both camps happy. or sliding seats so for holidays etc when you have kids in the back you can reduce their legroom to economy Rolling with laughter and increase boot space

I would like to see the wheels supplied being suitable for a good range of off road tyres; they all seem to be non-standard compared to the rest of the off-road world which rules out some of the good (and cheap) tyres out there.

It would also be nice to see an ECO setting on Terrain Response. Given the terrain response changes the way the car reacts to accelerator, gear changing, brakes etc.. there must be a list of settings that allows drivers go as economical as possible not matter how bad they normally are so that the auto can achieve 40+ MPG!!.... Of course, you can then slam it in sports mode to override the ECO setting and get some real driving done.

It would also be nice to have a keyless running system (and even better by remote) so that I can stick the car on a few moments before I go out to either warm it up or cool it down.

Finally, and my big gripe, is over the windscreen washer jets which are screen wash intensive and not much use. My wife's car has the windscreen wipers "spray" the windscreen and is far more economical than washer jets in the bonet. '09 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto
