[quote="taztastic"]Reliability is only an issue for a tiny minority, Land Rover have sold over 350,000 Freelander 2 models, factor in the number of people on here with problems and in % terms, the figure will be very small indeed.
Forums are great places but don't forget a man (or woman) with a problem will tell many people whereas those with a reliable car will more often than not, simply smile to themselves in pleasure.

Maybe you are right, in which case i should tell you about my happy reliability story !! It concerns my 11 year old BMW with 146,000 miles on it that has proven to be ultra-reliable and, unlike my 21,000 mile FL2, still has the original diff, original B-pillar trims and original wiper motor !! FL2 HSE Auto Galway Green
Evoque SD4 Auto Blue.
FL1 HSE TD4 Manual Black - Gone.
RR Classic V8 EFI - Gone

And I agree with npinks - another smacking for the twit that invented that tailgate "lock your keys in the boot feature".
Surely if it is a "smart" key it would not lock you out of the car?
My routine is - approach the car carrying a heavy load, open boot, setting key on bootspace cover then go to get next item closing the tailgate cause its raining - you know you have opened it so it must be unlocked - oh no, wrong, Landrover wonder engineer has designed it as a open once only button, thereafter it reverts to locked so now locked out of car, in rain. nearest spare key - 120 miles away - well done design team! Perhaps its just me and npinks.....

And I could tell you about my 1 year old BMW 320 which had an unplanned version of stop/start by cutting out completely at traffic lights on a regular basis and BMW couldn't fix it. Then there was my MINI (by BMW) which had 2 wiper motors and a new power steering unit in 5 years. Unlike my 23000 mile FL2 which has has nothing go wrong.

In order of priority:
A factory commercial variant.
Integrated Tom Tom - ditch the LR satnav.
A bigger diesel engine option.
Keyless entry system.
Simple cornering lighting system useing asymetrical foglights.
Dont make it any wider.
No 2 wheel drive variant required - keep it real. 2012 GS Converted-

The key to reliability key

Dear Sparkyfletch, please enlighten - what possible benefit does the keyless thingy bring to you?
I am at a loss as to what it is supposed to achieve other than flattening the battery and loosing itself.
Share please.

Keyless entry can be a pain, I have it on my Evoque & if you do as I do work with it & have it unlocked the car is permantly searching for the key which runs the battery flat.

Interestinly this thread is now 3 Years old so I suspect many of the early sugestions have been forgotten about by Landrover.

The FL3 just needs to build on the sucess of the FL2 with a few more up to date options but stop being greedy on the prices. FL2 is getting too expensive! (Past) Freelander 2 HSE 2010 MY In Rimini Red.

Last one did 35000 without the clutch failing. This one passed 23500 today and clutch still going strong. However, tomorrow is another day!!!

Maybe time to change it for a MY13 auto or wait for a 2014 FL3?

A service pack similar to BMW - e.g £500 for 3 years servicing- think this type of option may decide what I get next prefer a 'fixed' price .

I think a big selling feature would be a 5 year Warranty without the slippery Korean type get-outs. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

Hi Tradewind, re the keyless entry.
I have this on my Jaguar XF.
No searching for keys in your pocket. Just get in the car and press the button.
The put the fob in the Freelander slot is just irritating and from a differant decade. Pull it out at the end of the journey is pointless, when you should just press stop and get out.
No keys in your hand potentially scratching the paintwork. You just press the door handle button on any door to lock. Or the fob remotely.
To get something from the boot, or if I get my wish from the tailgate, you just approach, open, close and walk away. It will then lock automatically. Brilliant when you are carrying.
I have never experienced a flat battery on my Jag that I have owned for 4 years now. You can't lock the keys in the car - you will get an audible warning as you walk away. It will not lock itself but will arm the alarm if you do.
It's the future. QED. I hope this helps. 2012 GS Converted-

Proper keyless entry would be nice, but in general STOP adding more and more toys just to justify more and more price hikes! In fact, I would gladly trade some of the existing toys for a manual with a proper low range (and an uprated clutch!) - this is a Land Rover, after all.

Re keyless entry, my last company car before retirement had keyless entry and a powered tailgate.

So with an armful of stuff one just wandered up to the back of the vehicle with key in pocket, waved one's foot near one of the rear parking sensors, Open sesame! V handy. Surprising Skoda indeed.

Recognising this thread has whiskers I'd like to nominate a couple of things for a genuine FL3.

Headlights, please reinstate a genuine pair of extra main beam units, ie 4 lamps lit on main beam. Bi-xenons, whilst they are good on dip just do not cut it on main beam.

If LR ignore my request, then please provide some means whereby we can easily mount a pair of rally style driving lamps.

Ideally both, main beam units and the ability to reasonably easily mount auxiliaries.
