The List of faults – Anything missing??

I Bow down request help and advice from other members on this forum, because after having my (ex Demo) car now for 54 days it is about to go back in the dealership next week for the fifth time Shocked Sad , with the following list of faults (feel like I’ve becoming Victor Meldrew!!) Big Cry

1) Gear Selector dry creak sound – Hopefully the dealer should have the parts to replace the gear linkage and rubber mounts which solved a similar problem on one of the courtesy cars…… Whistle

2) Loss of trip Information / Not starting at times

3) Auto Wipers – mind of their own Rolling Eyes

4) B Post Seatbelt surround wearing (both driver and passenger sides)

5) PTI – still dropping the phone connection (completely from memory) every couple of days (and yes the phone is on the approved list)

6) Rust appearing on the detachable tow bar mount (only towed with the car once for two hours last weekend and the tow bar was newly fitted when I brought the car - 54 days ago!!) Shocked Shocked Mad

Being that this is the first Land Rover that I have owned and dealing with my local dealer (Guy Salmon) is frustrating to say the least!! Are there any other items that I should check for before the car goes back in?

Fingers crossed, I am hoping that this time will be the last Censored time the dealership sees the car until its normal service

All help and comments appreciated. Thumbs Up

Regards, Bill

I would hope that the dealer would do the following as a matter of course, but you might want to check that they:

a) Update software modules
b) Carry out the oil breather pipe quarantine work that they will have had a bulletin about from LR. My dealer had to order a part in, meaning a return journey, so you might want to suggest they order it in advance for this visit.

There's also the heatshield issue that others have had problems with.

Just taken some photos of the rust on the tow bars etc, so whilst looking under the car I thought that I would have a nose, where I noticed more rust on the front suspension componets (uploaded some photo's) my car was registered at the end of Jan 07, now I am being OTT Question or is this normal. (Please bear in mind that I have never taken this car off road). At present I can only compare this to my wifes motor (Citroen C3) which is a few months older but the suspension parts are rust free, in fact the whole underneath of the car is.

Mine has similar rust to the edges of the front suspension arms. 4 mths old now.
It could be poor painting and it came away with some mud after pressure washing, or simply it's on the bottom leading edge , so any stones etc will chip it.
I may just treat mine while I'm still all protective about it Smile

I understand that ex-demo LRs are graded depending on the amount of off-road work they've done, to differentiate between dealer's demonstrators and ex-LR Experience cars. It might be worth asking your deler what your vehicle was graded as.

The end of an era

After my car being in the dealership for the last five days having new suspension parts, driver information system, tow bar housing, B post trim, gear box linkage cables and the car computer completed re-programmed I have called it a day and agred with the delaer to buy the car back off me.

So look out on ebay next week since I will be selling the Sunblinds and the rubber boot tray that I brought (if anyone is interested)

Thank you for all your support and comments

Happy Motoring, Bill

Are you looking for another Freelander, or is it "Once bitten, twice shy"?

Hope your bad experience hasn't put you off Land Rover forever.

Rich

As far as the freelander no way Exclamation might look for a 2 year disco that \I can get looked after by my old mechanic rather than a main dealer, Land Rover Uk and the Two Dealers that I have dealt with have left a bad taste....

As mentioned in my PM, be careful with D3. I had similar problems to those you have experienced with a TDV6 S model. Decided to go for the FL2 on the basis it is a less complicated design and therefore less to go wrong, as well as being easier to maintain. If you can afford it, I would recommend sticking with FL2 but go for a new one and ensure the dealer is under no illusions that the thing will be rejected should any problems occur. Under UK law, you have up to 30 days to reject products with significant issues.
