Winter Foibles

I went outside at mid-day to try and resolve the frozen tailgate switch and ended-up discovering a brand-new new 'feature'... the parked mirrors would not unfold?

The overnight snow that had settled on the plastic mirror-mounts had frozen solid. So a wedge of ice on both sides was preventing the mirrors from moving. I did not want to drive with no wing-mirrors but after 20mins or so defrosting they were still frozen solid so i ended up having to chip it off. It was quite stubborn after only one night at minus 4/5 degC.

I think its wise to deactivate the auto-park feature whilst we have this bad weather.

My garage is full of everything except what 'should' be in there <lol> ...the car! Although i am still enjoying the novelty of jumping into the comfort of a good heater, clear-screen and safe 4WD performance, its such a great car for winter that i am not too bothered about the little annoyances. After decades of owning all-sorts, with the recent floods, pot-holes and now the snow, i can see me sticking with Landrover now - hope i have not jinxed it! <lol>

How do you deactivate the auto park wing mirrors? Ok, this is to save me reading the manual which is in the car and it is too cold to go out and find it!

Redmug you can download the owners manual in PDF format from the Land Rover Technical website, that will save you having to get all cold and frosted! How can carbon have a footprint, it has no feet?

The mirrors can be configured by
your land Rover Dealer/Authorised
repairer to automatically fold when
the vehicle is locked, and unfold when it is
unlocked

So they can be deactivated by the dealer?

Found it. Thanks. Although it usefully states "The mirrors can be configured by your land Rover Dealer/Authorised repairer to automatically fold when the vehicle is locked, and unfold when it is
unlocked."

Seems then you can not set them on those cold nights not to fold without heading of the the dealers who i am sure would do it for a rather modest small fee!!

Merry Christmas everybody, just passing 5 mins while the better half is slaving getting the dinner ready.

I think the deactivating of the automatic folder mirrors would be a usefull mod, a dash mounted switch or such that interupts the circuit would do the trick, anybody got a wiring diagram. ?

Crazy guy - the folding mirrows are one of the best features on our Freely Thumbs Up Why on earth would you want to deactivate them Confused 2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.

For the same reason Deek in his post wants the de-activation, if there going to get frozen or stuck I would rather have them stuck in the open position so you can drive safely Thumbs Up

They don't get stuck or freeze up. Mine have been well and truly tested in minus temperatures way below what you are likely to get in the UK. As for sticking, well they have juddered several times after the car has been extremely dusty after mountain driving in summer, but after a wash they have worked perfectly.

Some forum members have experienced some slight sticking (juddering noise) and used silicon spray to cure the irritation, but honestly I don't recall anybody having them stuck Thumbs Up 2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.

Have you read Deeks OP they quite clearly do get stuck, perhaps the UK conditions, ie constantly freezing & thawing are worse than the constant you have

Maybe its because they wash them too much and are constantly moist Question In any case the silicon spray fix probably is enough to solve the problem. Thumbs Up

PS - What about windscreen wipers - how would you guys with the freezing mirrows stop the wipers freezing in the same conditions Question 2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.
