Snow - how you coping?

I know this is a yearly topic, but with a few new members, this might be their first time in snow with the FL2

So whats your thoughts, any advice needed etc

Today i managed quite well in the Auto, cleared my sloping driveway of its 1cm that had settled, bit of grit salt so it will be fine for Mrs NP and her Punto later today.

Can't say others are coping aswell, driving through the estate to the main road, not an ounce of grit had been put down and a car had come round a very slight bend and broad sided a parked car with its rear door and then up the kerb into a wall at the other side of the road Rolling Eyes Good driving right out side a school Evil or Very Mad Rolling Eyes Shocked Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Great photos.

Sussex had a good covering.

This too, is my first experience of snow.

It took me a while to realise that you can change (gearbox) to sport mode/manual/auto "on the fly" - while you're driving.

Is that the same with the 4 x 4 settings - can you change while you're moving - eg if main road clear & you run into snow covered lane can you just switch while you're on the move?? Why am I so dumb???

Cheers.

RR

Yes it is, just change to grass gravel snow, when needed, then when you get a wide bit of road and fancy playing, change to sand mode.

Just tried it in our car park, as one of the directors in his BM was sliding around and couldn't get anywhere. Thought I have a play, and pulled away a couple of times in sand mode. The car just accelerated, with little wheel spin. There are times when I wish I didn't have ATR tyres Sad , but have to say, loving them in the snow. Very Happy

It's a sunny minus 9°C outside now - was a cool -14°C at 07:30hrs when daughter went to kindergarten.

We have 54cms snow in the village (more expected over the weekend) all roads are clear and gritted. With winter tyres fitted I've had no need to switch to any of the FL2's special terrain driving modes - yet. A very capable vehicle.

Had some snow a week ago and as it has been minus degrees since (-10.5 C today) and because of a very strong wind, the roads have become very icy and slippery. As usual winter driving on non-studded winter tyres we hardly notice the difference but is often safer to drive than walk Thumbs Up Some side roads are gritted, but this is mainly for pedestrians I assume. I don't normally need to use the TR snow/ice/grass function unless there is new snow as the 4x4 system copes exceptionally well in the normal position.

However most drivers drive in a fashion that suits the conditions, so on side roads and urban driving it is only at road junctions where the asphalt becomes polished ice that you may have to make exceptions. Main roads are salted so no problems except early mornings and night driving that can give a few surprises.

Driving in snow, except very deep new snow, is rarely a problem at all and as several on the forum have mentioned can be quite fun. Driving on thick ice however, is not fun on busy roads and unless you are used to it and can be rather dangerous - we would never attempt that on summer tyres which are illegal here during winter anyway. 2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.

Oh no it didn't (well not in this bit of North Suffolk) just a very very slight sprinkle that melted away, and a couple of very light snow showers. Big Cry I want to go out and play Sad

Must get my SatNav fixed - didn't realise that North Suffolk was in Sussex. It must be lurking in a quiet corner somewhere.

Glad Suffolk didn't get too much. Coming your way in the next few days. Let's hope it stays clear.
