I have seen a tyre insurance policy on offer on RRSport which I think is quite a good deal

has anybody had a policy like this and what was the claims lines like

the terms say they might want to inspect the tyre before giving the go ahead, does this happen and if so how long do you have to wait ??? Whilst driving on your spare 50mph wheel

The offer without looking to compare with other companies out there are 2 year cover: £162.00 or

I had same problem as Snappa - screw through tread near side wall so not repairable. 5000 miles use...

Managed to find a local garage who did me a brand new Wrangler for a lot less than the £198 you quoted - thnk it was around £134 fitted / balanced without any haggling - he even re-fitted it for me - shop around would be my advice and don't only use the big chains - this was cheaper than Black circles would quote me even with extra discount. There's always a way forward!

I've only had 1 puncture in the 19 years I've been driving, and yes it was only recently with the FL. Easy fixed for a cost of 50 euros so no biggy.

When I was ordering the car I was asking for a maintenance contract including tyres, which cost like 20 euros a month more, but you get free tyres when they are dead. So actually it would cost like 20 x 12months x 6years = 1440 euros, as I have 2 sets (all weather + winter). The dealer advices agianst it, against the whole maintenance contract actually, which would cost 90 euros, excl. tyres, a month (1080 euros a year).

I'm still not sure I did the wright thing. I do have the warranty the first 3 years which is why the dealer adviced against it. I didn't expect to drive the car so much having 13500 miles on the clock after 7 months.

I'm also not sure if you can get the tyre scheme seperatly from the maintenance contract which in itself is a good deal as a new set of tyres, including fitting, cost me like 1250 euros.Since I expect to replace both sets every 6 years which would cost me 2500 euros (compared to the 1440 euros).

I probably am wrong about something as the difference is quite big.

The real benefit of a maintenance contract, I think comes after the warranty period. I'm planning to extend the warranty with 1 year and drive the car for 5 years in total so I'd only have the last year of true risk. The extention would cost me like half a years worth of the maintenance contract.

So making the calulation (5 years):
no contract:
9 standard maintenances: 2700 euros
2 sets of tyres: 2500 euros
extra warranty year: 700 euros
total: 5900 euros
with contract:
60 month contract: 6600 euros

Only a 700 euro difference which I probably be paying sooner or later when something breaks of. If I drive the car a lot it would be a good deal as the tyre part makes all the difference. I did not realize that tyres are so expencive for this car, otherwise I would probably have went for it.

But as I said before, I'm probably doing something wrong as I think the difference is too little. Normal insurences you pay double the cost of what it covers if nothing goes wrong, meaning they probably wont cover normal wear and tear (but I'm quite sure they do).

Ah well, too late to do any different now, but next time I will look to it somewhat closer. Especially the tyre part.

I purchased the tyre insurance at the same time as the vehicle. This was with Hunters part of the Inchape Group. The cost was £199 for 3 years and it gives a £300 limit per wheel including the spare. So cover is £1500 in all. Thought it worth the outlay on the basis that the Continentals on 19"rims cost about the same retail as the insurance premium.
Always a gamble - but sods law without it I would get the unrepairable punctures.

When we bought our car from Farnells the rep ran through the 'options' (Gap insurance, paint protection extended warranty) etc there was a check box on tyre insurance but it was only valid for tyres up to 17'' so couldn't even have been included if we wanted.

This policy is for 19 and "20's

Glad I bought the insurance, after clipping a kerb yesterday I went out to a flat tyre as it had sliced the sidewall


Just had my second tyre replaced FOC
