I tow a caravan and love it. It is my palace on wheels, and when abroad it is my bit of England!! Seriously, give me a caravan anytime over a hotel room - been there, done them. Mealtimes, restricted views, uncomfortable beds, the rooms are never 'your own'. Nope, the caravan is fantastic and as for holding up people, quite often it isn't the caravanner but the HGV or the 'old doris/fred' in front of him; unlike me, they don't pull over if a queue forms behind them.

Firstly, most hotels do actually change the sheets, towels and pillowcases these days - the nice if somewhat condescending Polish / Romanian / Bosnian cleaners will do that for you
Secondly, HTF does tin-tenting 'set you free'? you've got god-knows how many kilos of dead weight being dragged behind you, you can only park on a level field, car / truck park, or other 'suitable area' - for which you mainly have to pay for the privilege. Added to which, you can only access said places on suitable roads (don't want to scratch the tin!) and generally have to spend the day / weekend / week watching everyone else burning food on a gas barbie, comparing spare wheel corrosion, tow hitches, power movers and anti-snake devices whilst joining the general discussion on how you are collectively reviled by the rest of humanity...
Having the ability to drive (pretty much) at any speed you like, take corners at (pretty much) any speed you like, not be restricted to formal camp sites, routes or having to worry about water, electricity or 'how far to the toilet block because I can't cr@p in ours without the shower head dripping on me' is only the beginning of being 'set free'
surely a holiday' is being removed from all the usual drudgery and accoutrement's of daily life? how can you achieve this with a tin-tent adorned with replicas of home? Get a tent, a sense of adventure and put a smile on your face

We do have early plans to go spend a weekend at 'Eskdales' campsite in one of his pod tents, that should put Mrs G off camping without to much pain

Some folk on here have a pretty weird idea of caravanning! 'The Boss' and I are not rallying types you see caricatured by Jeremy Clarkson and Chicken George (now there's a combination!) who are in and out of each other's caravans comparing cushions and cruet sets, in fact we're a bit anti-social in that we like to go to more remote locations, particularly in Scotland. We're usually either on the Munro's, mountain bikes or doing something else that keeps us away from the site during the day and after a hard day on the hill, we usually head back via the local hostelry, often not arriving at the site till the sun is down. So, it does set us free to do what we want, where we want and when we want. It's wonderful. I'm so glad it isn't for everyone or it would be awful - each to their own chaps.

Funny enough, my mate lives at Rothienorhan near Inverurie which isn't a million miles from Aberdeen. I might just pop up and see him.....ha ha!

Or just come on a windy day, its normally windy enough on the A1 near Boroughbridge to blow your van over, seems to catch quite a few folks out . At work
